New class of battle ready components with higher damage resistance

Simple suggestion:

We need another class of subsystem components (like powerplants) that are built for combat: E,D,C,B,A and one above for combat (X)

Presently only B rated components offer this, but its not enough as they are still pathetically weak. The trade off could be much lower output but 50% better resillence (at a much higher cost, too).

This would plug the gap when trying to build a powerful ship, as even with hull boosters and armour people just bypass the lot and target the powerplant making all that equipment redundant.
 
I'd like to see gimbals have reduced armor penetration in comparison to fixed weapons, that would make subsystem targeting more skill based. Combine that with the target zones for power plants being smaller, example being you can't use lower penetration weapons like gimballed pulses to damage the power plant on a federal drop ship from the top since the target zone is on the bottom.

Possibly remove the instant explosion from power plant kills and instead reduce the ship to "emergency power" either limiting them to just thrusters, sensors, and FSD or maybe instead reducing the ship to 50% power.
 
To be honest I think a lot less should be targetable. Power plant should not be targetable, it should be entirely be inside the hull. Thrusters should be targetable, but only individually, so you can't knock them all out in one go (knock out the mains and they're still be able to use reverse or the side thrusters). I don't mind having the frame shift drive targetable, it's a reasonable thing to have destroyable to prevent your victim from escaping, but it doesn't totally destroy their ability to fight.

Generally essential components, like the powerplant and even thrusters should be difficult if not impossible to individually destroy.

Personally I think the devs are missing something good. B rated equipment is the heaviest yet all stats are below A rated equipment.
Personally I think that if they want to have B rated equipment being heavy then it should be justified. For instance the power plant, B rated power plant should have the highest durability, and highest heat efficiency therefore it would be a hard tossup as to which power plant you should get.
