New classes of SRV.

I've been merrily bobbing around in my SRV and it seems odd that there are no other classes of land vehicle.
It would be great to have more military vehicles or armoured units to fight back against airborne attacks. Or what about land transport vehicles, with larger cargo loads. You could have an interplanetary dropship that could work in the system. They would not have jump drives though.
It just feels like a whole area of game play that could be explored more effectively than walking around as most of the mechanics already exist in the game
What does everyone else think?

The srv's are so neglected, they added the single type just so they could make planet landings work, but haven't added, or even hinted at, other ones since. Some variety, ANY variety, would be nice. Multicrew srv's would be nice, but I know that won't happen. Maybe some combat or cargo centric models will get added, in a few years, maybe...

I'm tired of spinning out, a skimmer SRV would be nice. Just give it one barrel instead of 2. Let IT carry 2 cargo tons, and increase the wheeled SRV storage to 4 or something.

Hello, Deltaveridtz. :)

Honestly, I'm surprised FD's never developed more of the things, as of yet. There's certainly enough interest, even from me - and I was hardly the biggest cheerleader for moon-buggies, before playing with one for the first time. They turned out to be great fun, though, even if the lack of variation does pall after a while.

Deathstroke's suggestion above, that FD added SRVs purely to facilitate planetary landings, sounds rather plausible. Possibly, FD wants to have more types of ground environments in the game before they worry about how we might traverse them. Hopefully, Season 3 will bring us something new to play with. :)

I think I've commented on a similar suggestion a while ago, and I dont know much about programming, data size, etc, but to create a new SRV, or any vehicle, building or station, dont you only have to cut and paste what works? You take the one that's working, stretch out the suspension, wheelbase, etc, make the cabin larger and larger cargo hold, add a mining laser, and bam, it's a whole new vehicle. (sorry for the run-on sentence).

I know that may sound like Im kidding, but Im seriously wanting to know
1) does it take 14 years to make a second SRV, adding one line of code per day? (I'm sure it can take a long time, but is that super neccessary?)
2) could you do as I suggested above and pop one out in under 2 years? (is it not right to put out too much stuff?)
3) is there a shortage on data, so much so that they cant support more than 1 SRV? (I notice on the loading screens, it's much smoother on my PC than my PS4, so would these things hamper gameplay a lot? )
4) do they think noone wants more stuff? (similar to 2, is it a negative, where I'd think it's a positive?)
5) ditto for other assets/stations

Would also like to see more options for SRVs.

It gets annoying when you're shifting things in & out of an area to your ship constantly, because you can only store two items.
Some larger storage in SRVs would be great. Don't really need to change size of SRV I guess, just the amount it can carry & if really want to, make it look different externally?

Grabbed Deserts of Kharak recently & two images of that game make me dream of more styles of SRV in ED.

Could definitely see either an armoured (missiles?) 0 cargo version, or a heavier, slower 8t 6 x 6 version. Maybe even a facility to MC in an SRV?

Having multiple SRV type would be really usefull for all the different planet-side mission there are.
+1 for the idea.

I want to deploy a combat-focused mech suit from at least 1km above the surface. Give me a multicannon and a seeker missile rack for surface-to-air capabilities and base assaulting. Have it automatically deploy me from the air to drop into bases and send my ship into orbit. No cargo space, a data link scanner, and have a version with a rail gun for sniping and one with a beam laser for shielded enemies.

I would prefer just being able to drop my srvs from a kilometer up, add a bit of different game play so the Rover actually survives the free fall, and maybe player skimmers though extra SRVs would be nice even if only npc scarabs planets surfaces are lonely skimmers or no skimmers.

Fdev is not neglecting the issue, they just do not have mechanics involved yet, perhaps because they have another focus or even planning new surface mechanics for them to be useful.
But we can see that they are working on this in these concept arts. Maybe they are trucks for life NPC

I'd be happy with traction control. I have six wheels that ALL loose control at high speed in anything less than 2 gravities.
