New CMDR - Anecdotal story

So I bought another copy of Elite to roleplay "Veteran rules" which is a blast, btw, by G.man:

I take my E rated loaned Sidewinder and my first assassination mission to Styx system following advice from the introduction message, I guess its basically a combat tutorial in game.

Mission takes me to Opala system, I scan the Nav bacon, it points me to the planet's whereabouts.
The USS appears, I jump in, kill the Cobra pirate, and mission is successful. Yay, 10k Credits, here I come!

Mission states enemies are after me, all is well. On my way back, I get interdicted by an eagle. No problem, I got this, I'm gonna waste this dude.
I submit, see the Eagle and ... behold! The same Pirate Cobra jumps in... alive! Together with the Eagle!

I try to kill them both, but my shields go down very fast and I'm 60% hull in seconds so I run away.
Jump in to the nearest station to repair, and woah!! The Cobra jumps after me again?! Alive?!

Quickly land on the station, repair my ship and BAM! Mission failed! I failed to kill the Cobra!

This whole ordeal just got me laughing, though it feels like I was playing some kind of a tech demo and someone is trying to prank me.


Anyway, got some your anecdotal stories?

I swear that some of the game loops in ED were designed by the sons and daughters of FDEV staff for summer work experience and the devs are too kind to remove or improve them lest they offend the parent.
The whole concept of "MURDER 6500 CREDITS BOUNTY" is pathetic, too. Nobody dies except our overpaid Crew... For some reason FDEV haven't managed to grant the only persistent NPCs in the entire game access to escape pods.

I flew on a scan the data point mission.
Arrived at the planetary base. Someone was already raising the antenna. "Damn it!" I thought. But needn't have. As soon as they completed the scan I received word of "mission completed" and headed back to collect my reward while the poor SRV was fighting for its life on the planet surface.
