New commander here. Is it safe to leave space station? :)

Hi guys,
I've played so far Elite, Frontier and First Encounters but I've never player ED until yesterday on Xbox (I've not a PC or Mac with enough horsepower).

First impact was great but I've found myself lost even in the first tutorial (well, I guessed a tutorial should guide you, right?). How to move, how to fire, etc.
I've already watched the videos on youtube but problem here was to understand what to press to do what. I finally was able to understand more or less the right commands, exploring the options but all these efforts burned out my trial time.

So the question is: how's the point of this Xbox porting? Is it worth for start playing or is it still early unstable beta?

The rules of GPP says "if you like the actual status buy" but I wasn't really able to test it out (especially because the real gameplay is not accessible during trial). So I'm wondering if the current state is aligned to PC version, and if future updates will be released at the same rate of PC/Mac (but this only Frontier knows I guess).

So, simple question: if I buy it, will I be able to explore the universe, fight pirates, play markets or I'll only get crashes, restarts and limited gameplay?

Thanks. :)

Xbox users will end up with the same game although it's not clear if you will share the Galaxy and not just the background sim at the moment.

I have no problem in Solo mode, it is very similar to the PC version. The Open Play version is broken for me, lots of crashes, but I imagine that'll get fixed soon. Have a look in the bug reporting forum and see if the bugs that are being reported are things that you can live with. My advice is to get it now, as it is playable in Solo and it is extremely cheap at the moment.

I'm new too and had the same thoughts.
I bought it anyway at this price it's worth a punt I thought.
Took me ages to even find out how to leave the station in open play.
Finally cracked that part after doing all the safety checks I could then launch.
Got myself a mission to do which then failed miserably lol.
I cannot stop playing this game, it's going to be massive in my opinion and worth every penny, even in it's beta stage.
Yes there are bugs here and there, and last night open play wasn't highlighted for me for a while only solo.
Yes you can explore the Universe and fight etc. I killed my first bounty last night after first firing at some defence ships by mistake doh!!!
Now what I do have to master is this damn radar system, always had trouble with that when playing it in 1985.
Oh and I still haven't managed to actually get safely to a docking outpost or station yet, keep shooting past or getting lost.
Well I had played it for about 6 hours none stop so must be the space fatigue setting in.
Going to try and find some tutorials for space travel and also getting my head around the radar.
Also it looks and sounds fantastic on a 55 inch TV although most of the time I get relegated to a gaming monitor as the Mrs says she wants to watch the TV as I am spending all my time on the Xbox now. How rude.
I would definitely buy it mate. It is a great experience and still very playable in its current form.
I am not counting on all my achievements and credits being saved but if they are then that's a bonus, I am just enjoying getting to grips with a whole new experience which can only get better.

Keep an eye on the decreasing time counter during your approach. When it hits 10 seconds throttle back to 75% power. Autopilot kicks in and decelerates you until it's safe to drop out of supercruise about 10Km from your destination.

Thanks guys, you convinced me (as long as I'll be able to buy it in the US store as it seems there's not in my country). :)
Now I've to go and find out what's solo and open play (but I guess a sort of offline and online, right?).

Have a nice day (in space). :D

I'm a PC player but Docking is really easy.

On your way to a location (Station or Outpost) keep an eye an your ETA. Try and keep your speed to around 10% of your distance. Once you get to around 30 seconds, maintain your ETA to around 7-10 seconds. As you close the last few Mm (Megameters), keep your speed at or below 1Mm/s then drop your FSD at the proper time. Once you've gotten to the station, go to you're Contacts list on the Left UI and ask for Permission to Dock (Not asking will get you shot). Keep your speed low and watch for traffic. If you die (at any point) you have to pay the Rebuy cost of your ship (5% of your total cost for standard[non-beta or alpha] players) or revert to a Sidewinder. Once inside head straight to your landing pad as loitering will get you shot.

Also, you may be tempted to purchase a Docking Computer when you get the funds but don't. From my experience, it's tried to kill me by forcing me to loiter in the docking corridor (or the Mailslot) and other terrible things. Practice will make it easier.

Thanks guys.

To drop out of Supercruise is a combination of 2 keys then ? [edit]
ahh I found it hold A then up on D-Pad I think

I am ok at getting into the docking station (training session) it was just I couldn't find them lol

Ok, I can't buy it as it's not available in my country (Italy) and I've not an US credit card. :(
Enjoy it for me, guys and Frontier, please, publish it on my country store!

really? that stinks. i would contact support. i don't suppose there's something like VPN on xbox?

really sucks though. why should you not be able to buy the game in italy? wonder if this is due to microsoft or FD's decision.

if you can, and you like space sims, i would not hesitate to buy it for 30$. but be aware that it's more like a simulation than an arcade game. the CQC seems to be more arcade but the rest is as close as real life as possible.

Well I guess (and hope) it's just a matter of time (hours, days).
I've already opened a ticket and tried all the legal ways to purchase an Xbox game in a different country but none worked.
Now I'm here, with a big monkey on my shoulder, and money in my hand. Please, David, take it. Take it now!! ;\

I'm struggling to think of any reason why they wouldn't share the same galaxy.

The quote given was due to the nature of Xbox upgrade patches - if everyone's in the same "galaxy" then all the clients need to be running the same version. Since MS (I assume!) control how game updates are pushed out to XBone, Frontier's only other option would be to delay the PC & Mac patch until the Xbox client was pushed out. If that took a lot of time, it would mean downtime for the PC/Mac gamers. Separating the Xbox & Mac/PC instances is probably a lot easier!

About the time it took to get used and configure your controls, consider it part of the fun. I recently read a post by someone saying that the amazing thing is to customize your ship controls so they are different than anyone else´s, even when using the same hardware peripherals (i.e. joystick or game pad, etc)
It´s your ship and you are probably going to spend many hours flying it, so it´s worth to take time to understand and configure your bindings. And don´t stick to your first choices, but keep an open mind to modify them as you see it´s needed
