New distortion on DK2

I've just recently started getting a type of distortion on my DK2 - when moving my head, everything moves closer towards me (although headtracking still works in the main). It's most noticeable when docked inside a station and looking up at the entrance slot, which then seems to 'bulb' towards me.

Have to admit I'm struggling to describe this adequately, but has anyone noticed anything similar happening recently?!

In my experience this effect is usually caused by moving out of the DK2 camera's field-of-view. I have also seen it happen when the camera fails to initialise giving no blue LED; it transpired the sync wire wasn't seated correctly.

Thanks stavros, but I've checked all that. I've re-plugged all the wires and made sure the blue light is on. However, I have to say it's definitely not an issue with ED as it seems to be doing it with Radial G as well. Also multiple reboots. I'll have to give this one some more thought!

Sound like your positional tracking isn't working, man. If the view isn't changing when you lean forward / backward from your normal sitting position, or of you stand up, then something is definitely wrong.

Is it all OK in the demo scene in the config tool?

yeah use the demo scene, and turn on camera bounds. Make sure whatever movement in your RL chair does not go past the edges... you make have to move the camera further back. Mine is about a meter/yard/three feet in front of me.

Also make sure you do not have any bright lights/screen/sun reflecting off things. The Rift uses infrared LED tracking dots on it and if the camera "sees" something else it may get confused

Any chance you've changed the eye relief position on your headset, or the related setting in the config tool? If it's not set right in the config tool you can get barrel distortion which may be what you're describing.

I have the headset fully extended and have to have it at the 2nd lowest setting in the config tool for it to look right.

Thanks to everyone for your help, but no luck so far. Positional tracking is definitely working, but the problem persists despite trying the following:

- Re-installing firmware (current version 2.12)
- Turning off all lights in room (at night, so no light creeping in from windows)
- Trying all eye-relief settings (the problem improves at a lower setting but is still there)

I've tried the demo scene and I'm well within the camera limits. The problem exists here also, as well as in the Tuscany scene. The odd thing is I have not installed anything new since it all worked perfectly a few days ago. This is utterly perplexing...

Doesn't sound good if it's happening even in the config demo scene! :(

Next step would be windows reinstall, or try it on someone else's PC?

Yeah, think I'll have to try it on a friend's PC at the weekend, otherwise a Windows re-install seems the next sensible step. Thanks, and wish me luck!

Before taking the napalm approach of reinstalling windows, try just resetting the oculus software. It stores its config in Users\Yourname\AppData\Local\Oculus. Stop the oculus service, delete that folder, start it up again and re-configure.

You could also try reinstalling the oculus software in order to reset any registry keys but I think that's less likely to make a difference.

also, try plugging the camera USB into a different slot on the computer, might have one that is getting momentary hiccups

Thanks for the tips, I've now tried using a different USB port and re-setting (and re-configuring) my Oculus profile. Still having the same issue unfortunately, this is baffling. Time to post on the Reddit forum!

Also, before going the whole hog and reinstalling Windows, try System Restore to take you back to a point before the issue started, assuming you're a wise one and have it turned on. ;)

Best help is to ask the Oculus Support, they know already of many Issues about the DK2 and if nothing helps they exchange the Hardware very fast. But only if you have buy it directly on the Oculus Website and not on eBay.

Make sure the camera is about 1-1.5 meters away, and that there is not reflective surface, Picture, mirror, bright lighting behind you.. This might help.
