New elite anacondas

Wow! I used to kill them almost effortlessly in my Viper in 1.1, yesterday I bought a Vulture, fully upgraded it, and almost got shredded to bits by a pirate lord and his goons.
Good job FD, the AI is very good! I don't know if I suck or what but it looks to me they are now like raid bosses and should only be tackled in a wing!
I believe their reward should be increased a lot because there is currently no incentive in farming them instead of RES.

nope, if you want money go trade. having fun in this game wont get you money, and like you stated instead of buffing bounty hunting is being nerfed. guess it made to much money.

How is it being nerfed? I made 1mln cr in 40 minutes in my Vulture in a RES, to me it looks buffed!

Is anyone else getting shredded by pirate lords right now or is it just me? I think they'd pwn me even in my Phython but I won't dare trying.

You just scared me! ;)

The last thing I did before logging off last night was to accept a mission to kill a pirate lord.

Like you, I used to take them down pretty easy in my cobra or asp, so didn't think anything of it.

So, later on, I'll be taking my new vulture out to break it in against elite anacondas.

Wish me luck :)

Let me know man!
Keep in mind in my 40mln cr Asp I left with 31% hull after less than 20 seconds.
In my 37mln cr Vulture I left after a minute with 60%! :D

Also, fyi, they usually run in wings now. I was used to turn around and leave as soon as I saw the USS contained more than one ship, but now they are accompained by 2 or 3 smaller ships (I found Vulture wingmen once that was SCARY).

WoW one mil in 40 minutes!!!!What have you hit? The anaconda bonanza or what?? Do share some details , was it an anarchy system? Barely made 400k yesterday in 1,5 hours and 150k were from some lucky interdiction of a phat pirate. Shot so many sidey wings that my trigger finger blistered :p.

Sigh. I've been saying for a while that they're too ridiculously good (pirate lord Anacondas I mean) and now they just got worse.
Excellent.

Games need to be challenging and rewarding, not impossible and punishing. An Elite Anaconda with Vulture escorts will be impossible for all but the best pilots with the best ships, flying in wings. Couple that with draconian fail conditions and what you have is... punishing.

Have fun fun everyone else in a Cobra who won't be able to afford a Vulture for months.

I was in Leesti actually! :D Yesterday I got a crappy instance with lots of eagles and some cobras. This morning it was Pythons, Clippers and Anacondas ranging from 30k to 120k cr. From what I'm reading around it looks like you get a good instance around 50% of the times now, and the variety and spawn rate is much more fun and immersive compared to 1.1.

Actually I think the difficulty is spot on. They are like mmos raid bosses, only well prepared groups should tackle them. But they should increase the rewards by a lot given the commitment it takes to kill them. At least 500k cr I would say.

Other people are reporting endless sidewinder streams in RES, though.

So bounty farming remains a throw of the dice.

Elite anaconda: we're talking about the most expensive ship with the most-skilled pilot. I've always found it absurd I could kill it in my Viper, without even any hull damage. If you are not one of the best in a fantastic ship, why would you expect to kill one of the best in the best ship?

You're missing the point. It's not that they are too hard, it's that they are not WORTH doing. The mission rewards do not justify the huge amount of risk you are taking in tackling these.

I've been trying to get Sarah to take heed of the fact that Elite Anancondas and their 200,000CR mission payout plus their measly up-to-50,000CR bounty does not make up for the cost of tackling them. assuming I even survive them now, I am looking at hull repair, hull integrity repair, re-arm weapons, re-arm shield boosters. In the end that 250,000 (tops!) payout is only a 150,000 profit. 150,000CR for sometimes half an hour of jumping into and out of USS points, fighting for my life trying to dodge their insane AI, and all for MAYBE, if I live, a measily profit. And if I can't manage to take them down, then I lose money and I lose rep.

NOT. WORTH. IT.

Ok, so here's the story!

Firstly, I survived!

Now that's out of the way, here's the breakdown...

Did the usual jumping into USS to find the guy who's going to tell me where to find the conda, and got ambushed twice by NPC wings with gold for bait, before finding him!

Legged it both times, since one wing was 4 Vultures and a Viper (5 ships????), and the other looked like more ships than that - I didn't hang around to find out!

Then dropped into a USS where another NPC was waiting to tell me to ditch the mission and kill someone from the faction that sent me.

Not had that before on an Elite Conda mission, usually only in 'hunt x pirates' type missions, so that's different!

Anyway, finally found him, and he was on his own, and tbh this is where I messed up...I had replaced my fuel scoop with a shield cell, but for some reason (and I didn't notice till I went into modules to switch it on - my Vulture is quite over power!) I only had 2 charges for it.

So, into battle I went, and his shield came down pretty quick, I targeted his power plant, and started blowing it away (not easy with fixed beams!)

His power plant was down to 66%, I had used both (dammit!) cell charges, and he took my shields down, so I ran away screaming like a little girl....:(

If I'd had the other 3 shield cell charges, he'd have been dead, and I'm still not sure how I didn't have them.

Do you only get 2 charges when you buy one now, and have to reload (not that I've noticed that problem before, maybe a bug?)

Anyway, I ran, docked, repaired, reloaded and went back out after him.

2nd time I found him, he had 2 wingmen, which I was a little surprised about, since I was under the impression the system is meant to scale these encounters..needless to say, I was getting punished quite badly, and so I bugged out again.

After licking my wounds, and thinking about tactics, I figured I'd give it another go (glutton for punishment, me), and try to lure the wingmen away from him, take them out, then go back for him.

I dropped into a USS and there he was, with only 1 wingman - a Sidey, so off I go, having annoyed him into following me, and about 6km out from the Conda I turn, and he dies under the attention of my 2 C3 beams.

It was then I noticed some more blips on the display, that weren't there before, so I boost back over to see what's going on, and it's plod!!

3 fedsec ships are going after MY conda, the cheek of it!

So I wade right in, and with the conda having to choose between 4 targets, have a much easier time of it, and after a couple of minutes he blows.

It must have been from critical module damage, since he still had 30% hull, and the power plant, which I was targeting, still had 40% or so.

Still I'm not complaining!

It was fun, it was intense, it was definitely 'dangerous!' :D

I loved it...

Well we're trying to make them harder, but there's only so much we can do against players with maxed out ships. :( Still been fixing a few issues and making AIs use their weapons a bit smarter. Seems there was a bug related to AI skill levels which meant players who thought they were battling Elite pilots were in fact facing Harmless ones... That will be fixed for 1.2 (you can thank my colleague for that fix).

Today I spotted a problem with weapon power usage and the faster fire rates of high skill AI pilots which meant they were draining the WEP capacitor! Got some ideas to make them balance their weapons fire a bit better. I've also been sharpening up their targeting a little; noticed the Anaconda was particularly bad at aiming with fixed weapons so I've tweaked that a little.

One of the newest things is that AI ships with mixed weapons will now use their lasers to strip shields, then switch to multi-cannons to destroy hulls.
Oh, and as I've said before, AI ships also try to evade a player's line-of-fire, but that's going to be an ongoing task, although the first step of the system will be in version 1.2.

Sometimes I wish I could cheat and give AI ships super-shields or super-speed... but I can't. :( Besides, that would be unfair. ;)
Elite pilots are now Elite! :D

i've been spending my time on a pirate mission in my viper, currently had the elite conda and 2 cobras. And the elite conda, a sidey and a vulture... Doing this in a viper is proving to be a challenge, the first one i got the conda down to 70% hull since I could outmaneouver the cobras... The 2nd time however before I had even took one bar off the vultures shields (decided to take vulture first because I've seen them in action and they rip you to shreds) I was down to 60% hull..

Decided to bug out, thrusters malfunctioned, power dist malfunction, power drive malfunctioned, auto-reboot, 35% hull, 2.97km out from them and drifting, reboot finishes start frame shift.. 24 mass thingy, well damn that's not good, threw all pips onto eng and sys, boosted as fast as i could go and got out of there with 5% hull

Safe to say I had fun
