Engineers New engineer mods for explorers

Far as I can tell only 3 new mods, all from Bill Turner, would be any help to explorers.

Lightweight Life Support (up to G3) - slight shave off mass.

Shielded AFMU at G1?

Shielded Fuel Scoop at G1?

Together with:

G5 Increased FSD range [natch] from Felicity
G1 Overcharged Power Plant from Felicity
G1 Enhanced Low Power Shields from Elvira
G1 Clean Drive Tuning from Elvira (which opens up...)
G2 Engine Focused Power Distributer from Marco
[spending all redundant materials with Todd the Blaster to open up...]
G5 Heavy Duty Armour from Selene, which will open up Bill Turner

Any more suggestions?

Rather than low power shields, you could consider getting smaller shields that are resistant.

My Asp now has 3D shields with lvl 5 thermal resistance, plus three E-rated shield boosters with lvl 5 resistance augmentation. It has saved a lot of weight, but can handle a few hits or a station face plant.

I'm planning on adding a heat launcher with extra ammo capacity.

Another addition I've made is a railgun with a lightweight mod and plasma slug effect. I've got this mainly to be able to quickly drain the fuel tank when I want to get a slight increase in range.

Also. check out: A List of Less Obvious Engineer Modifications for Exploration Vessels

lightweight heat sink?

plus I'm considering toughing up my powerplant to add a few more hp. currently running low emission which can have a reduced mass perk (mine is only @-2% but its a saving so it all adds up)

Do you know how the heat sink ammo mod works? A fixed boost of 50% seems vague when you have three ammo at default. Do you get 4 or 5?

The heat sink capacity mod adds a lot of weight, up from 1.3T to 3.49T on mine, so it's pointless on an exploration ship if you have a spare utility slot to fit a second one instead.

You get 1 extra heat sink.

Cheers for all the info. Yeah I got a 3D Shield but got lucky (rolled a bunch of times) on a roll with lightweight shields that gave me extra thermal resistance.

I got some shield booster upgrades but left them at my home station (along with point defence) so I can pick them up when I get back from any long voyage.

Railgun mod sounds interesting I'll have a look into that cheers. Comes down to fiddling with the powerplant/distrubuter mods to ensure everything works and I can still boost.

The lightweight life support looks like a good thing, but I'd be concerned about the greater chance of having things go badly wrong and hitting 0% without noticing. The base unit only weighs 4t anyway (in an Asp), so it's not like you can gain that much jump range.

It would nice to have engineer mods that make the tools more useful rather than just lighter, for example:

- longer range detailed surface scanner
- faster detailed surface scanner

I'm certain this has been mentioned before but it doesn't hurt to mention it again
