Engineers New engineers seem to be quite a yawner to me......

When I saw the new engineers and what they supported I thought.....looks good! Well, after visiting a few they all basically affect mass or integrity. I expected things like KWS increase range or fuel scoop increased speed. For the most part I have been able to increase my jump range by .25 which is hardly worth the effort I went through to unlock them....

Yep, unless I'm missing something it's all about Lightweight, Reinforced or Shielded units. Can't see CMDRs opting to increase mass by up to 300% for scanners?

Would have been nice to have had the option to increase the efficiency of Fuel Scoops for maybe a higher power draw?

Power reductions on some of the scanners (KWS, wake ) might be helpful but they could have at least one more blue print for increased range and/or sensitivity to counter cool running targets.
Also seems like all the upgrades still have placeholder (generic utility module) blue prints that just give reduced mass (lightweight), better integrity (shielded) or better power consumption (low-emmissions) each at the expense of the other two.
Haven't seen any secondary effects yet but then I've only modded some of them at L1.

Some of the upgrades might qualify for the most useless upgrade in a multiplayer game category, especially the shielded category. Maybe they'll end up on PC Gamer, IGN or GameSpot list down the road. ;)

Some of the other ones are nice though. Chaff and Heat Sink ammo for example. Life Support weight reduction has it's pros and cons. Reducing the weight is great, but the integrity loss means it's even easier to lose the system and NOT be able to repair it with an AFMU if it hits 0%.

Did point out at the VERY start that all engineers has done as cause an arms race. Oh and kill off any change of new players.
Engineers still turning ED into a shoot-em up. Very little offered for traders or exploring.

+1

ED has gone full blown pewpew-centric.

I'd hate to be a noob starting to climb the vertical wall.

I think they had an idea to make the players try everything, and customize the game experience for everyone.

Yeah was hoping that would have been on the list, either as weight reduction, or power reduction.

Reduced mass, power, increased range, scan speed, detail, etc.

Combining the ADS with the DSS in one slot would be my kind of Level 5 upgrade.

There are plenty of useful things that could have been done with limpet controllers, mining lasers and refineries.

I wonder what FD were thinking adding reinforced or shielded upgrades for a limpet controller. Do they really think that these are useful upgrades?

I just had a look at the life support upgrades.

Say you are going to upgrade the life support on a Cutter. That's a class 7 life support.
The extreme choices are:

- 7B life support with lvl 4 reinforced upgrade - 384 tons
- 7D life support with lvl 4 lightweight upgrade - 12 tons

OK, there is likely to be a huge difference in integrity. But which upgrade makes sense?

Ram Tah looks interesting. Unfortunately the game has decided not to spawn Classified Scan Databanks using all the recommended techniques, so I am 32 short of unlocking this guy, and am wondering if I ever will.

I was interested in his Lightweight mods because most of the modules he supports are modules I tend to always carry. It would be nice to make those lighter to increase my jump range. FSD range seems to be the primary focus of most of this 2.1 stuff, and I am Okay with that because that is what I want to do.

But it would have been nice if we had more options than we seem to have been given. Why wasn't the main SCANNER included in the modules that can be lightened? It is one of the heaviest on the ship, yet to date, nothing for the primary scanner. Life Support modification was nice! I managed to get a full 2 LY additional range upgrading that.

I'm not saying they couldn't have more generally useful stuff. But for an explorer, they are awesome. Life isn't just about pew-pew and shields.

I would really love to see these following mods

For fuel scoop: long range, faster scoop rate AND more scoop-able star types ( not gonna happen)

For kws: long range, faster scan rate

For limpet controller: longer life time, long range, control more limpets at the same time, 1 limpet can hold more than 1 canister at the same time ( not gonna happen again)

For refinery: more efficient ( need less fragments to create 1 ton) , more bins ( not t gonna happen sad)

Disclaimer: I do not have access to all the engineers at this time, so if any of these are available already, please forgive me

Off topic question: will emission special effect have any effect on ship that is currently using chaff

I agree. With some obvious weight-saving exceptions (life support), how the newer blueprints actually made it into the game is a complete "what the?"

My dog could issue better blueprints than that. And that's a feat because I don't even have a dog.

Edit: Because I love the game, tThis sort of lack of thought going into the game features really aggravates me. The database is being updated with a new value, that's saved under each commander. That's all done. The UI portion is all done. Its just text and making sure the right game attribute fields match up. A team acting under a designer of Braben's stature should not let this go through to the keeper; in my opinion it shows how little attention is being paid to the design (at least for those features).

We could have extended range sensors, lighter sensors, longer life support, longer range KWS, shorter time to scan objects...the list goes on and on... but no... still can't believe it.

/mic drop.

I think half the problem is it doesn't seem to be Braben who's doing the designing. He's doing all the CEO stuff or whatever his title is now. The people who are in charge of design now, well...
