New excuse to explore local space

I just got through 30 limpets in an inept manner, and managed to get 2 Plat, 6 Pall, 4 Osmium, 5 Gold, 6 Silver and some shrapnel.

30 is quite a lot of limpets.
I know I wasted a handfull Prospecting by missing the target, but near the end of the run, Collectors were only lasting a minute before failing, I have a 5A, so they shouldnt. What could that be ?

They were crashing into things! They are very very weak, don't park near a roid, and do your best to have the fragments fly off in a good direction :) Also don't move too fast as they can crash into you too. Lastly, they are a bit bugged so could be that

Ps no reason not to completely fill your cargo with drones. They are used faster than they collect and are very very cheap

Could be this. The only time I tried the Collectors, they randomly tried to fly home on me prior to 1.3.2. but I thought they fixed that.

+1 for this. These drones are really annoying but made me value mining only metal-rich or pristine areas as to not waste money/time.

How do the mining missions work? That might hook me in.

So of the ones I've seen - they are all "fetch me [1-5] of [rare mineral]". They pay out around 80-100k cr per tonne. They seem to be based on your trade rank, as well as your relationship with the faction giving. The higher the requirements for those, the better payout.

I've seen requests for Osmium, Platinum, Paladium, Silver, Gold and Painite. Could be more.

It's a shame though that you can actually buy Paladium, Silver and Gold so pretty much anyone can exploit this. I'm sure they'll fix it real quick.

In Bubble and trying to rig up a miner. I am having difficulty.
How much better is the medium mining laser to say, two smalls?

I want to try in a cobra but I feel like the cargo room is lackluster for something that need to carry stuff back to sell.
I was thinking about a type 6, but would only be able to carry small mining lasers.

Ive got 15-18 million to spend.

Also I hate this new 10% loss on modules, the Asp seems like a likely candidate for this role but I hate losing that much money on a refit to my explorer.

To answer the actual question, 2 medium ones will empty an asteroid in about 30 seconds, smaller ones take about 2 or 3 times longer.

I'll leave the rest to you for experimenting

the 10% loss on modules is NOT implemented. You can still sell them for exactly the purchase price.

However, if you trade in a full ship, you WILL lose 10% on all modules. This means that before trading in a ship, you can save a ton of money by manually swapping out all modules for the cheapest version you can put in that slot.

I've noticed many times where I can sell a module for MORE than the same shop sells it for. Not sure if there is a way to exploit this (as once you sell it, it moves to the "rebuy" section for the price you sold it), but it could be a new way to trade :p

Sell it, collect the cash and relog so it clears the buyback option?

mining Asp just returned with a load of rocks, this is 100 times more fun than it used to be. Theres some skill and practice involved, its not just awkwardly fumbling with the cargo scoop anymore. The new drones make this MUCH more worthwhile now. I can see doing this more often.

and on that note, would mining in a T7 be worth it? Might have been too hard to scoop before, but with the drones, and a huge refinery and lots of cargo its looking tempting.

Probably. To be honest, I can't mine for more than an hour without getting itchy trigger or explorer fingers. I do it in a clipper and I avoid fights. Maybe I'll go for the RES sites from now :)

So yeah, even though I go in a Clipper (which is way better than a T7 in everything), I never stay long enough to completely fill it

It's a lot more lucrative if you do missions. Generally, selling 3 Palladium for 200k is turning out to make me quite a bit. Raw trading is a lot faster, I admit, but I'm really enjoying this. Really. Need to hit the High Intensities - but not alone. Someone needs to join me :D

Last night I was in 9 Ceti, 3 jumps from Sol. It had major Metallic reserves. And a conflict zone. And a high tech station to get those missions from and buy and sell basically ANY part. Good place :D
