New exhibits/vivariums

Lately, I’ve been enjoying the exhibits more than usual. As a result, I’ve been thinking about additional exhibits animals I would like to join my zoo. In this, I’ve been thinking about both additional biomes to the existing exhibits and about additional exhibits/vivariums as a whole. I just wanted to share them with you (I’m sure, some of you have had similar thoughts).

I’ve come up with four different types of exhibits; greenhouses for endangered plant species, aviaries for tiny bird species, terrariums for butterflies and moths, and aquariums for tiny marine life.

Inspired by a community post by yoav_r called “gardeners and plant research” , I’ve been thinking, it would be awesome, if we could have an additional staff member – a botanist – who could do plant research on the endangered plants!

I like to keep my expectations and wishes “low”, as I believe they have a higher chance of becoming a reality. And therefore, I’ve imagined both the size of and possibilities with the new exhibits/vivariums pretty much the same as the ones we currently have in game. Thus, it is only the interior, the species and the enrichment items that are different. About the enrichment items though. I’ve imagined some new ones for the tiny bird species; nests, additional camouflage items, unidentifiable tiny insects in the air (as food), and twigs, straws and branches to rest on.

I would love all of these in my zoo! Let me know, what you think, and if you have any other ideas for new types of exhibits.

Yes, absolutely! Good money making for new zoos aside, the exhibits are at the lower end of interest for me. Granted I'm not a huge insect/reptile fan or a very skilled builder, but there's only so much I can do with them. I'd also like something more than the 1x1 exhibit - maybe 2x1, 2x2, 2x3, 3x1 and 3x3 sizes as well.

That would be really amazing. I suggested many times that I would like to see other types of exhibits other than animals. Rare plants, nature curiosities etc. Oh I would LOVE jellyfish, octopi and other types of these sea creatues.

I like where your head is at!

Just to be sure. Is "nature curiosities" some type of taxidermy? Or would you please elaborate?

Maybe minerals, prehistoric skeletons..My local zoos made an exhibition on tree annual rings (I hope that is right world for it in english?). Generaly more nature stuff of all kind.

Agree, I'm not sure Frontier will do full on marine animals that would be "habitat" sized so to speak, but I see no reason they wouldn't be able to add some smaller aquarium based marine life. I'd say a good reference would be animals that are the size of animals you'd see in people's home aquariums, even if the the actual species are different.

That's probably pushing into the lower priority stuff for me. I suggest to Chante a couple of months ago that rather than implementing an egg laying system, the dev team creat fake eggs for various species we have in game so that the player could use them as they see fit. For instance, if you want to put them in the exhibit ala ZT2 and pretend they're real, go for it. Want to make a behind the scenes tour that has egg incubators on display? Fantastic. I personally would use them as animal information areas that are often just before or near major habitats in real life zoos. Some other things that come to mind for that would be:
- Squares of material that mimic animal fur or skin
-Faux rocks in the style of the Aquatic pack faux rocks that have paw prints of various species (Lions, gorillas and tigers would be my top 3 choices)
-More artwork of animals that got mostly left out, such as tapirs, lemur, bear species.
-Premade signs with little bits of fake text that compare the size of the animal to the size of the average person. Some examples could be a polar bear standing on it's hind legs next to a regular sized person, or a Komodo dragon stretched out in front of a person. These are suuuuper common at real life zoos. They could also compare similar animals, such as all the bear species, or tigers compared to lions and jaguars in size.

I don't know whether that is the right word or not - but I understand, what you are referring to! Thank you for the clarification.

The fake eggs are such a good idea! I haven't been missing them in game - but if they were a thing, would absolutely find something to do with them.

Who is Chante?

Love, love, LOVE the small aquarium idea.

I would also like to see a large exhibit, sized 8x8 (a square the same size as 4 of the current exhibit). I think two sizes would be perfect, the existing 4x4 and a new 8x8.

First off, LMAO that you said "Men too"

But I also agree, 8x8 terrariums/aquariums would make them SOOOOOOOOOO much better than they are now.

I need a big 8x8 desert tortoise exhibit.

I need it. Like air. And water. And espresso.
Ha ha! Love the autocorrect! I'm from Denmark, and thus, "me" doesn't exist as a word. "Men" means "but" in Danish 😅
