It was good to do some trial runs this way, I learned to spend some time on the journey and let the curiosity take over. I'm trying to learn how to spot planets that might be interesting after the first system scan, not always easy I think. But I also learned that I want to see the weird and wonderful out in the galaxy - not so much to get a name tag on things, that's just a bonus - but really just to see the galaxy and have a sense of wonder. It was indeed fun.

Yeah, that's a great way to get started. I did some tiny amounts of exploring around the bubble, but my first real excursion outward was a 6,000 ly passenger mission, out to a planetary nebula near the Heart and Soul Nebulae. I did it in under 24 hours (about 10-12 hours of play time, from one evening until the next evening). It taught me a lot. Since then I've learned how to do all of it faster and more efficiently, while still finding it relaxing. At the time it seemed like a ridiculously long distance, but it was a good "trial run", and like you, it was nice to see the galaxy in all its splendor, and get a taste of what is out there.
