And not just stars either. Gas giants, such as our very own Jupiter, are enshrouded in huge magnetic/radiation fields.
It would be pretty awesome to see FD weave some game-play out of this somehow, hopefully in the big update later this year focused on exploration.
Perhaps the following:
- Sensors become less effective the closer you get to the field. Maybe even totally scrambled at very close proximity. (dog-fighting with no sensors could be a challenge)
- Shields weaken as a result of huge magnetic interference.
- Hull becomes temporarily weakened by high radiation - prolonged exposure might lead to actual damage.
- FSD's may take longer to spool up due to intense magnetic interference. Maybe even malfunction, leading to a miss jump (for High Wake).
- Ship systems (electrical) become chaotic (similar to Thargoid structure interference) the deeper inside the magnetosphere you get.
- Which could lead to new engineered modules - Electromagnetic Shielded Sensors. Magnetic Resonance Shield Emitters etc etc.
And that's just gas giants! Multiply by a whole lot more for close proximity to B, or O type stars.
Lots of possibilities. Hopefully FD will come through when they add some polish to exploration later this year.
