New game from me - DataQueen

Tired of crashes, disappearing stations and flagrant griefing? Well why don't you ignore the latest amazing 3D space sim and check out a more humble game! I made this last week:

It's called DataQueen and it's a hex grid roguelike, turn-based, with procedural levels that change during play, and has a variety of interesting abilities, enemies and bosses. Bloody tough too :) I'm looking for feedback as I polish a few bits up, so any comments helpful! Downloads are free, for Windows, Linux and OSX.

I strongly recommend pressing '?' in-game for detailed instructions, as it can be quite confusing at first.

Looks intersting mate, must admit I was struggling to get the 'Blockbusters' game show music out of my head though!

Yeah, I find it hard to get past the Blockbusters visual similarity too :) Might be less of an issue if I get a tileset and some original music.

It looks very interesting, and I'm sure the concept is great.

However, after too many MUD's and DF I am kind of texted-out. Graphical overlay perhaps?

Someone has offered to do tiles - I'll see if that works out.

It's much more readable than DF and most MUDs though. Clear colours, low number of characters used, etc. ASCII ain't so bad when it's done cleanly! There are also particle effects to show various statuses and ability effects, which make the action more readable.

Here's a shot of some early progress on a graphical version:

Will get ability icons and such done too. Been a lot of calls to make a mobile version of this, so I'll have to put some thought into how the hell to do that :)

Having a few problems with loading a saved game. It appears to hang once it's at 100%, but starting a new game works perfectly. Any ideas Darren.

PS I'm already running it in admin mode so it's not that.

Yeah, I've had some issues with that myself :-/ Could you send me your te4_log.txt file from the game's directory? My e-mail address is darrenjohngrey at hotmail dot com.

Working with a couple of friends on a mobile port now. This is how it's looking:

Got the control system to be really smooth - it's fantastic :)
