Hey everyone,

As you may have noticed, we have a new game launcher. We've made a number of changes to help make sure that important information is easily available so it’s always worth taking a second to look at the launcher for any news or important updates.

Specific changes we've made are...

  • Inclusion of GalNet news
  • Community Goal news
  • Support notices
  • Bulletin notices
  • Rotating Frontier Store promotion
  • Automatic Login
  • ‘My Account’ Section added to menu

While I'm here I think it's a good time to remind everyone about the important launcher information in last week’s newsletter for those of you who will have access to the Horizons beta. Just a reminder that David gave an update regarding the Horizon Beta here

When the beta goes live, you’ll need to download the latest launcher from the Frontier Store. This is found in the ‘My Downloadable Products’ section when you Login. The file will be listed as 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons - Beta'. Once you've installed the latest launcher, 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons - Beta' should be available in your games list to select and play.

Steam users will not see Horizons in your available games list, you will only be able to see Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store launcher.

Will the horizons beta launcher replace the current one or will it be a completely separate entity? And will we be doing a complete new download of the game files?

Finally auto-login launcher. That irritated me since launch that you had to relog every damn time.

The new launcher isn't letting me access the game...I think the relevant buttons are missing, I only have the option button to upgrade to Horizons...anyone help please ?

So I can't exit steam because it tells me that Elite Dangerous is running (which it isn't) and also I can't log into the store. What is happening? :p

For the new "Horizons Beta" launcher, will we have to DL and install that into a separate location, or can we just overwrite the current launcher with the new one. Will we still have access to the normal game from the Hor:Beta launcher?

For some reason this happens on every launcher update - the launcher SEEMS to fail to install (gets an error message on completion and doesn't leave a desktop icon). However, since I have a shortcut icon pasted in a different folder, I find that if I click on that it does work and has been updated just fine. I just don't understand why it gives me the error message in the first place (this happened with the last launcher update, too)

Launcher is working fine, just to be clear, it's just there's something buggy during installation that makes it seem like something went wrong.

The new launcher doesn't fit on a 1366×768 display (it's too tall), a standard for many displays, especially laptops. I game at a higher res., but I have my desktop set to a lower one.
