new graphics card

Hello there. I have finally replaced my AMD 290x card with an ASUS 1080ti turbo graphics card.

I have a question though.

on the 290x I could run ultra in 4k with supersampling at 0x75

on the 1080i I can only get a smooth framerate at a maximum of supersampling 1.0

is this what I should have been expecting? Anyone have any tips on the 3d settings for Nvidia? I haven't owned a Nvidia for over 10 years.

thanks

Unless you are using VR, there is very little image quality benefit to running a SS setting other than 1.0, you would just be wasting frames. The 1080i though, should give you MUCH better performance than a 290x, so perhaps consider using a driver uninstaller and downloading the latest reference drivers and installing them clean (get both from guru3d.com). It's all I can think of really.

yes I was lazy and didn't reinstall Windows after changing the card. I did use AMD uninstaller though.

An i7 should be fast enough.
Motherboard or RAM limits perhaps?

Although, 4k and 1.0 SS is 3840 x 2160.
At 1.25 that's up to 4800 x 2700.
At 1.5 it's 5760 x 3240.

That's a lot of pixels to push out. Lol

Still, I assume a top of the range GPU should handle it.

perhaps.. its a mid range i7 processor which is watercooled.

No such thing as a mid range i7...
What type?
My 4770k is running at 4.5ghz overclocked on air since the day I got it, somewhere back in 2013.

Having bought a 1080 mid may I'm getting 60fps everywhere with at 1080p and 2x SS, everything else on ultra, no need for AA anymore, the image is smooth as silk.
Only very busy stations and on occasional planetary landings the fps can drop down to 50+.

As Aashenfox said, use the Display Driver Uninstaller to clean out the AMD drivers. The AMD driver uninstaller is trash, and does more harm then good. It can't even clean up for a newer AMD card, let alone an nVidia one.
