New here! Couple of question about controls (Warthog)

Hi there, thought I'd check in on these forums. I play lots of things, but EVE is what I've spent most of my time doing. (Though I would be said if ED turns out to be EVE 2.0). I'm playing ED with a TM Warthog, TrackIR, and 3x 1080p surround setup, so it's quite immersive.

Had a couple of question re: input, specifically some stuff for you TM Warthog users out there. I don't really understand the reason for the Target GUI software. What does it let you do that in-game configuration won't let you do (besides controlling LEDs)? Also, as far as assigning controls goes, it's unfortunate that you don't even get a prompt when overwriting existing bindings. This makes modifying the stock Warthog profile very problematic.

Seems like right now my best option is to print out the diagrams from the user manual and then scribble down the key bindings to avoid collisions. DCS has a feature where if you activate a joystick control in the controls menu, it will jump to whatever that is bound to, which would also alleviate some of this headache. Am I missing anything here?

You can get most things to work from within the game. However, here are a few reasons I use Target (some may have been fixed - using target since premium beta, so some Information could be outdated):

- In premium beta, I had the issue that some of the buttons on the throttle and on the stick would be recognized as duplicates. I needed Target to fix it (so far I'm the only person encountering the problem though - might be related to having lots of controllers attached).
- The two way Trigger - I couldn't get it to work as I wanted in ED. It lets you assign primary fire to stage one and secondary fire in stage two, which means it fires either primary or secondary, but not both. I have a different button for secondary fire only, so I wanted stage two of the Trigger to fire all, which wasn't possible from within ED (at least in PB).
- Improved switch functionality - it's not ideal yet, but for functions lacking a hold function in ED (e.g. toggle landing gear), I use Target to assign both positions of the switch to trigger a toggle, so whenever I flip the switch, the landing gear toggles (otherwise you need to flip it both ways if it was in the wrong starting position).
- Scripting ability - e.g. I use it to launch a heatsink whenever I flip the switch to enable silent running to give me an instant cooldown.
- Additional functionality like mp3 player control (Play/pause, next/previous, voulme up/down mapped to APU and Motor Switches).
- Recording software controls (start/stop recording mapped to a switch)
- disable HUD and take high res screenshot at the same time mapped to a button.
- Cat on Keyboard countermeasures ;)

just to name a few.
