New Horizons Ships Not In Base Game

Why are the new ships not in the base game? I can't personally play Horizons due to not having the appropriate graphics card, so I'm stuck playing the base game for now. However, while playing the base game, I noticed seeing Kraits and Alliance ships flying by me, and even another commander in an Alliance Chieftain. Which also raises another question, can I see players playing Horizons? Since I've seen a commander flying a Chieftain, I'm assuming so. That means I'm unable to engineer any ship, am not allowed to own a Krait or Alliance ships, all of which makes me a very easy target. Thankfully, I've not been interdicted by another player yet. I would be outclassed in every way.

Engineering and Guardian stuff, aside, can we not at least have ships available that are clearly being flown around me by NPCs and commanders? I know some of you will give the easy answer of "get a new PC", but I've been going through a lot the past 4 years (Personal stuff) that prevents me from affording a brand new PC. This game has been helping me a lot as of late and I thank you, FD, for that. I understand the engineering and Guardian stuff requires planet landing so I'm not asking for that. Would just be nice to explore in a Phantom or fight in a Chieftain.

Thanks.

EDIT: On start up of Horizons I get an error message stating that my graphics card is not supported or I would be playing it, :p.

EDIT 2: Yes, I'm on a laptop with Intel integrated graphics which is not supported.

Didn't horizons get folded down? You should be able to buy any of the ships. If your PC cant handle planet landings you probably cant visit engineeers bases. But i dont see why you cant run horizons while in stations and space. Unless it literally blocks you from attempting it.

weeel. you "could" play horizons but choose not to, bc of your grafics card (understandable, mine is bad too)

so you (imo) could
  • turn all grafics totally down
  • start with horizons
  • buy a chieftain
  • switch back to non horizons and fly with it.

try it., should work!

It states on game start up that my graphics card isn't supported and closes. So yeah, it literally blocks me, :p.

what graphics card and OS are you running that for regular elite it's good enough but horizons isn't? Horizons min spec lists graphics cards that were released in 2010.

You could garbage pick newer graphics cards if you're running something that's 11 years old. New dx12 compatible cards can be had for 45 bucks. No new pc needed.

edit: or ebay an nvidia 1030 if you're keen on nvidia .. you can find them for like 50 bucks or so and that will be a massive upgrade over whatever dinosaur you got now.
radeon 470's go for nearly the same there.
Or someone at work is probably throwing away something with much newer stuff than even that.
Really, the answer if you're rocking an 11+ year old gpu is to get a new gpu.. There is no other solution.

Sorry, but you should expect that horizons min spec will become baseline soon.
Are you sure you can't run it at all? I could run it on a 9 year old laptop with an entry level radeon, it was not quite good on planets, but on space wasn't bad

The mininum requirement for a graphics card is a GTX470. That's an 11 year old card. What are you running? The recommended is an r9 280x, which is just a rebadged 9 year old card (Radeon 7970).

For everyone, I'm on a laptop that has integrated Intel graphics. Base game runs just fine, the only problem is Horizons doesn't allow intel graphics, so it closes on start up when at the planet loading phase.

Yes, it is, :p. I've had to move between apartments and homes a lot in the past 5 or 6 years so I got a laptop to make things easy, something I can play if I didn't have a place at the time.

Well this sucks donkeyballs. You have my sympathy.

ebaying a laptop would set you back 100 bucks for something made in the last 10 years that supports dx 11. you're not going to be able to get around the only answer being new hardware. I'm actually surprised Fdev hasn't removed all support for running the game using the original version rather than horizons being the "base" version now since they gave it to everyone.

thats really bad...

but maybe: do you have a friend where you live who plays elite?

you could start your account on his computer, buy a chieftain, and go back to your laptop.

Probably better so, I'm under impression that logging into the base game is still the easiest way to solve a case of missing ship/falling inside the planet.

Well to be fair, there must be other people in my shoes, otherwise they would of just updated the base game to Horizons from the get go. I'm curious on the actual number of people with graphics cards not supported.

Honestly I wish they would just combine them with the option to load planets or not.

Naw, I got this game for me to chill and relax to help out with my stuff.

Horizons means landing on planets (even if you won't) and the check at launch is to make sure the graphics card can generate the planet surface.
