This is one area that I think ED won't live up to my dreams (yet).
I believe the star field you see when in a system will be realistic and show the nearby visibal stars in the correct positions, but what about the gaseous regions. Will these be persistent realistic structures in the galaxy that you can work you way around, and fly through. Think of a structure like the 'columns of creation'. As I hop from system to system towards it, will I see this growing in my view and immersing the space around me as I get close. Will I be able to see these columns from different direction depending on the system I'm in? What will in system space look like from within these clouds?
It will be difficult enough the work out what view to render with each system, but to animate your motion through it in accurate true 3d at you fly from system to system will be a lot of work for what will be a tiny amount of the game play time.
Let's hope I'm wrong. Let's hope we can also zoom around a realist galexy view in the galexy map. If not now, there's always Elite 5!
If they can pull of this kind of animation, then PLEASE make the jumps take time and allow us to look around different directions as we travel. Just imagine walking around your ship looking out of a window as you go and watching the stars and gas clouds slowly change perspective in front of you. Would be mesmerising! There could be an optional quick jump wih auto pilot. Or a 'scenic jump' made to make it last longer.
