"New & Improved" Chrome Ship Skins

Received an email from FDev today announcing new & improved "Chromed" ship skins. Am I the only one who thinks the improved "Chromed" ship skins are even flatter and less shiny than the old "Chrome" ship skins?

When the Chrome skins first came out, most people seemed to agree they looked nothing like chromium plating, more like silver anodizing. I was hoping the new chromed skin would be shinier, more reflective but the "new & improved" ship skin seems to me at least to simply be even flatter, though more consistently flat across the entire ship. I do not see this as an improvement.

So far I have only looked at them inside the hangar. Maybe (not holding my breath) they will look shinier outside the station.

PS: It also seems like the chrome ship skins were not improved for all ships. My Vulture the Kenuichio Harada, the only ship that I keep consistently in chrome livery does not seem to have the new skin available. [where is it]

Yep, received that email as well.
I'm looking forwards to checking them out when I'm back from work. :)

I do hope they look more... chromey in reality, yes. :D

wow......a 2.0 paintjob..... Wonder if the Thargoids got a similar email about their "Basilisk" paintjob? Really Frontier. If you told us 8 weeks ago that "the Return" would consist of 1 new alien ship with two paintjobs that could only be successfully interacted with in a wing I would have moved off ED and enjoyed my spare time a little better.

(turns and resumes watching the paint on my wall dry)

Only could have a brief look at them in the relative darkness of the hangar, but to me, they look smoother and ultimately, better (Eagle & Vette, can't tell for others). The old Chrome paintjobs had the tendency to vary between anything from black and ultra-white, depending on the surrounding light. Now we got a choice at least ;)

O7,

I have the free Eagle one, from some CG I did a long time ago. I've never even applied it to a ship. I don't even have an Eagle.

But if I did, I guess it would look better now.

:)

EDIT:

I went and bought an Eagle just to look at it. I have 2 skins, Chrome and Chromed. Chrome looks better to me.

So I guess I like the old one better.

But neither is all that 'chromey' if you ask me. More like brushed steel.

Strange, less reflective, more like brushed Aluminium, neither are remotly Chrome like.

Many of the Decals are highly reflective, almost mirror like, so it can be done on a small scale, maybe doing a whole ship like that would kill the GPU.

Are these on the store.. I cannot find them

If I understood it correctly, then if you had previous chrome paintjobs, the updated one will appear automatically as a new paintjob, next to the old one, but as far as the shop goes the new one simply replaced the old one (so you can't get the old one any more)

Oh right, I will have a look when I dock. I guess you can buy from there

Or maybe I cannot get them... fingers, toes, legs, arm and ears crossed I can

I will let you know if possible, so everyone knows etc.

The problem is that the decals aren't meant to be reflective -other than the golden Founder decal which is now generally not golden.
Something got broken way back in 2.3. It was reported in beta but the issue still hasn't been fixed. [blah]

etc.

Hopefully this will be the precursor to a Chrome paintjob for the Orca.
And now I have to remember where I parked my chrome Eagle to see what the new chromed looks like as well...

Don't tend to run chrome effects very high as it doesn't work that well in VR even with a 1080, but at least they've taken a look at them and improved.

OK, thanks for that, what a pity that something broken shows what could be done.
