New kid on the block

Until ED, the only space sim on XB1 was Strike Suit, which was fairly lame IMO. Then along came ED, which took the genre to a whole new level. Thhe problem I had with it is that, after a while, everything becomes very samey and any progress requires massive grinding.

Now, I see there is a new contender called Starpoint Gemini 2. From the trailers and descriptions it seems like a cross between Elite and Freespace (Freespace 2 is still the benchmark in space battle sims, IMO).

The 7GB size suggests it is either very lightweight or most of the content is online.

Anyone tried it?

I played it lot on pc its actually a fun game but not the same type of game as Elite. Its been on steam for quite a while.

First, its not a sim its a tactical space game. The space combat is sorta like the combat in Star Trek Online if you ever played that. I wouldnt say its a lot like Freespace 2 or Elite.

Second its single player only and has a lot of rpg qualities to it. Its not online. Theres a campaign and an open sandbox mode. Theres 75 different types of ships.

The voice acting isnt that great and neither is the campaign, it is an indie game afterall. And on Xbox the graphics also arent that great. All that said its a pretty fun game. Its like an indepth Rebel Galaxy. Also kinda reminds me of Freelancer a tad bit.

The developers of this game are really awesome though and really interact with the community. On pc it has a number of dlc packs that added a lot to the game. I bought it again on Xbox mainly to support these devs because they are really cool.

I dunno know if its worth the $35 for most people though. Most people would probably consider it a $15-20 game.

Thanks for the info. It costs £28 here, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Talking of Freespace, I would really like to see FS2 style missions in ED. Something with more depth than "deliver this", "kill that", "find x tons of y", etc. Space is vast but the things you can do in ED feels like you are splashing around in a paddling pool.

I don't know, I love Elite though. I've always loved Elite. It's like you showing me a beautiful woman with her own teeth. Ok, I'm sure she's nice and can walk through a door without turning sideways but she's not my missus

Lol

Starpoint is definitely not like ED, but if you're into freelancer kind of games then it's a good game.
I'm gonna get it anyhow, there are just so many cool spacegames on the Xb1 and this is one of them.
It won't beat ED but it's fun too.
Rebel Galaxy is also comming I believe and looks a lot like Starpoint, and Ark will enter early access on dec. 16th!!!!!

Xb1 is starting to get better games more frequently :)
