New limpet : Camera Limpet

Why ? Because I just read that :)

The idea :
A streamer talked about a similar but different feature in another space game which is not a space game ;) But in Elite Dangerous some mechanics are already there to allow this..
limpet because
  • it's need a controller so it's not "for free"
  • it cannot go as far as you want
  • it is not there forever
  • it can be destroyed
  • it's quite big and so cannot go inside settlement buildings

What I don't know about limpets because I never tested : what happens to limpets when we dock.
I know there are changes to do as it cannot fully behave like a pure limpet (eg : it has to be launch-able when landed)

Regards

Why not just fix "The Shot Ruiner blackout effect" and make sure the camera properly collides with places it shouldn't go through instead of blacking out.

No need for a new limpet if we already have the very functional camera suite!

(Plus, please god no more limpets!)

I'd say because they'd have to add a special collision box on all odyssey operation settlements ? Because some let's say little clowns would obviously exploit this feature ? I think the exploits are the main reason of the black screen implementation.

Our guild master was an event organizer in the game I had as main one for years. The main thing he taught us is that : when you create an event, try to break it to avoid it being broken. Game features are the same. Elite being full PvP enabled, a feature will be exploited a way or another. Why do you think my draft proposal is something physically present and visible ?

Limpets also have the advantage of not being a frame killer by themselves. Only player latencies might kill the FPS rate.

The settlements already have collision boxes though, else you'd be walking through walls. They just need to fix the camera clipping in to terrain and objects. The camera already correctly collides with ships and SRVs, so there should be no reason they can't correctly collide with other items in the world.

There are already 8 types of limpets, would we really need another type? It would mean another limpet controller module and you'd need a cargo rack to hold the limpets due to their one time use nature.

I don't see what having to install all that extra stuff would do other than clutter your ship, when they could just fix the camera suite clipping.

I don't have alpha access so I don't have that information : does settlements have a big cubic collision boxes which lock the camera to avoid invisible spies ?

Oh, you're meaning the ability to use the camera suite to look around corners inside a building. If someone wants to use the camera suite they're a sitting duck anyways, so I don't see the problem.
