So I just thought of a new mission!
Mostly issued by shady factions, but can be others too, basically, you get asked to harass, but not kill, a target, for either money, or information.
Harassing them basically consists of shoot them until they surrender. Disabling drives and FSD more or less guarantees this.
But the target might not give up the information until a very low hull %, and may wake out at any time, which you will need to either prevent, or be able to follow (a real use for the wake scanner!).
If you're scaring them in to paying their debts, you complete the mission when the target surrenders, and then wakes out with a promise to pay, or waits for you to leave. Or, they may drop the value in cargo, which you can return to your employer to complete the mission.
If it's for information, they will transmit it to you, and wake out. Or just wait for you to leave.
You'll nearly always be under explicit orders to not kill the target, ever. So just pew pewing them until they surrender and explode would actually fail the mission.
Possible hiccups could include;
These missions could spawn follow on missions, such as;

Possible hiccups could include;
- The target receiving assistance, or ships being sent to stop you.
- Ships being sent to kill the target before it surrenders the information (will not happen for debt collection missions).
- Target offering to pay you to let them live.
- Target not knowing the information you seek, but knowing someone who does (aka, redirect, information missions only).
These missions could spawn follow on missions, such as;
- Target lied and never paid up, kill them or family member (Evil!).
- More money. If you returned cargo, it might not have been enough, try again.
- Information was false, try it again, then kill them.
- Information was good, could lead to many other missions, assassination, piracy, surface assault (not scan).
- Let target go, so they could offer you missions against your original mission giver.
