NEW (NEW) AI

Looks as if the AI has been turned down a bit. To be honest I liked the more aggressive one, but I understand it completely ruined the game for a lot of people who didn't.

To me the latest AI seems less aggressive than the one it replaced. I've had quite a few ships (wisely) decide to run away. The older AI used to often fly as if it either couldn't actually use the controls, or didn't actually care that it was being destroyed. The current AI does give the impression of wanting to fight, but it just isn't terribly good at it compared to last week's AI. I was also able to outrun an Imperial Navy vessel after interdiction without being scanned - which I don't think I'd have got away with last week in my DBX. So it's as if they've turned down the AI a little - at least for the ships I saw tonight.

That all said, i've been floating around a Nav Beacon in a secure location. I've seen a lot of Sidewinders and other low-value pirates tonight. Nobody in an Anaconda (one in a FDS, but he was half-dead by the time I got there due to Police action), and the bounty I've had on me for the last week has expired and cleared - so no more bounty hunters after my scalp. Maybe i'd have found it more of a challenge if I still had bounty hunters trying to kill me and was in a more dangerous spot, but it feels to me like they've toned it down a bit, whilst not rolling back to the old AI. My ship isn't that bossing (quite a sorted DBX) but I'd have expected to take on all the ships I did tonight and win, it just would have been a little harder earlier this week.

For all I know, Elite opponents are a deadly as they were last week still. Certainly the Elite police ships I saw in action tonight seemed pretty effective!

All and all. Seems quite a nice rebalancing operation. Although I'll miss the old Psycho AI, and I don't know if it's still around in other places.

Sorry about that brainfart!

I'm pretty sure the 2.0 NPCs could destroy the 2.1 NPCs. One will be spinning in place, the other flying in harmless circles. But the new AI will run out fuel faster, so they'll die first.

New (new) AI is a return to the old (old) AI. You aren't imagining things. Apart from missions sending some ranked ships, the general interaction is now low ranked AI who carry nothing of interest and happily pull you from super cruise only to be blasted with minimum effort.

It's heading back to 2.0 levels; it's evident to me, that most people just want things back the way they were.

Just was in a fight with 2 Couriers and a Vulture in a HazRES. The new AI is a lot easier - it seems like a lot of them just entirely ignore the player, which seems strongly like a bug. Other than that, it seems like they've been tuned to actually fly around more, rather than turret as much, which with the fixed weapons has had the side-effect that makes them miss more often. I wouldn't call this a nerf, it looks like an unintended consequence. I am sure it will be fixed. :)

You seem pretty sure about this. You do realize that Frontier is fully capable of fixing this problem? They already fixed it in 2.1.01. Now they "fixed" it back to 2.0 AI.

They do do this every patch cycle. Make the game awesome for 1 week before rolling it back to easymode for 3 to 6 months.

Overheat your Sidewinder while refueling on 10,000K star? No problem, we'll reduce the heat build up and damage to ignorable levels
Get lost while trying to plot a course in deep space? No problem, we'll add route pathing for 1000 LY thus making exploration into sight seeing
Can't figure out parallax? NO Problem, we'll extend the range of ADS scans to infinity
Lose your SRV? No problem we'll replace it as soon as you log back in.
SRV damaged? No problem, we'll restore to full health as soon as you dock with your ship.
Smuggling makes too money? No Problem, we'll make the missions so rare and require so much cargo space, that no one will ever be specced for them.
NPCs too "aggressive"? No problem, we'll hide them in HAZ RESes and lobotomize them all, just in case.

According to some older (now gone) Elite historians, this isn't even first time that they buffed and then nerfed the AI.

In general, there tends to be mutiple nerfs for any single complaint. If anything, unless there is a huge public outcry, expect any new changes to AI to include even more nerfs.

Well, when we have people opening threads complaining that they can't run away from attackers in their Cobra, others opening threads complaining that they can't high wake out before being destroyed in their frakking Anacondas, others opening threads complaining that "small, fast and agile ships fly around me instead of parking in front of my Corvette's weapons", and generally people who consider losing a ship "a game breaking bug which needs fixing", there is no solution beyond nerfing the AI to a point even a (slightly) trained chimp could successfully play this game.

In the words of Maxwell shhmart..."annnd lovin it chief"

The AI I've been encountering don't seem to be nerfed, not from my eyes at least. I was playing before and after the patch earlier this morning, and they've mostly been the same for me; Turn-fighting the heck out of me, staying in the blindspot, all that. Only real problem (if it can be called a problem) is that, it kind of seems like that's all they know to do now. I usually don't see them run, and whenever they're engaged with eachother, all they really try to do is just out-turn, never outpace or outgun. Besides that little tid-bit, as an Anaconda pilot, I will say that this AI is a decent step from 2.0, and I don't mind the challenge from the over-affectionate Vultures trying to massage the back of my ship.

The closest I've been to losing an Anaconda was from a Hybrid M-Cannon Plasma Accelerator prior to this mornings patch.

In case this seems biased, I've only fought ships that were Expert or higher the past few days, nothing below besides the very occasional competent viper. And if people are complaining that the AI aren't parking in front of their weapons, then that's their problem to solve.

yo do have some points, you know :)
It seems as if FD never can find the middle road, all updates have gone from one extreme to the other, every time something new was tried.

Cheers Cmdr's

I really could care less what the combat AI is like, but why do 3 pirates interdict me at once and then all fire on me like flys on a turd?

I get that Frontier want to spice missions up a bit but couldn't they have atleast added a bit of code that prevented this? I don't play combat right now thats why I choose only fedex missions but they seem to want to shoehorn everyone into mlg pro style tournaments at every turn.

Come on man, I'm usually half cut or sleepy as when I play this game the last thing I want to do is waste an hour getting chaindicted to the nearest station by terminators. Give us all an in-game option to go back to pre-engineer enemies/missions.

You remove the options that made everyone get a Cutter in short order like stacking/donations and instead throw extra waves of enemies at the people still grinding? I'm sorry but your grind was already too         long. I'll come back to the game maybe. But right now its a total waste of my time and not fun.

If you say "oh this is "Elite" dangerous" for a reason and its supposed to be like this then fine, I will know not to come back at all :)

Enjoy your teleporting hellhounds. Im out.
