New NPC piracy: Thumbs up

It's all completely random. I've had them interdict me when I was in a Vulture with no cargo holds installed at all.

I know random piracy still exists. However, the message I received before the interdiction--from, might I add, the same NPC that interdicted me--proves that not ALL of it is random anymore. Which is what I'm applauding.
Nope. Still random. The NPC selects you, chats to you, interdicts you, dies in combat. Random.

It is random, but factors such as having an active mission, having a hull full of valuables, and reputation with minor factions will influence the rate of occurrence.

So, not too cheeseball. Frontier has also said that they want to "do something" about NPCs who should be smarter than to engage in obviously one-sided conflict- although I don't know if that means just spawning npcs based on combat rank / ship, or if it means they'll bother to spawn aggressive eagles that then don't engage you.

The best I seen which shows some boring sarcasm from the DEVs - "I was thinking of quitting the game anyway!"...hmmmm
Perhaps he/she got sacked!

I think NPC's have been tidied up and made a bit brighter.
Have had them run when you start to get the upper hand.
You then have to follow them in hyperspace to another system.
Once there they sometimes drop out of SC into a Low Energy wake and when you follow them in , they are there with the damaged hull
at the same level as when they ran. As long as you don't lose the link, it's really neat.
level of NPC's is getting better. Don't know if it's linked to my combat rank and current ship.
I do think it has some effect.

I laughed the first time an NPC pirate scanned me at a Nav Beacon and said (along the lines) "Nope you look as though you can handle yourself" and SC out of the area :D

Had one shoot out my cargo hatch, I may have helped damage it before with some ropey flying but the NPC did notice I was spilling cargo, then proceeded to ask me for more.
Thought it was a nice addition. Was an Alliance Enforcer or some other PP related NPC. It would make sense for them to target cargo so maybe giving them Gimballed weapons may help create the illusion they are targeting cargo hatches, or just make them target that by default. Some of them at least...then that would spark the comms and tie everything together nicely.
I only had limpets since I'd forgotten to dump since changing things around on my ship but there definitely seems to have been some improvements in their interactions...and that's a good thing.

I tried following a ship to another system right after the game was released. The AI seemed to be broken when I caught up with it; it just sat there and let me blow it away. Have they fixed that?

I followed a pirate that attacked me, it high waked to another system, and super cruised to the nearest station, I shot it down outside the NFZ but presume it was heading there to dock.

They don't accept any cargo that you drop, though. They're not pirates yet, just a bit more to go... little bit more...
It's always 1 rule for players then 1 rule for NPC (this and KWS and all others). Who would seriously make a game like that? It reminds me of monopoly which proves that in the end there can be no winner as who wants to rent from a greedy landlord, i.e. who wants to fight against ships so much bigger and better (or even cheats for that matter!).

They do seem to accept cargo but it needs to be some value or quantity... I haven't figured it out
But when you're in a Sidewinder and just drop all four tons, they demand more
What do you mean, I don't have any more, you just cargo scanned me, you know that

Or when they are an Eagle, and have an interdictor, and shields, and demand more when you drop 8 tons.
I know you cannot fit more than 8 tons in your ship, and you are not winged with anyone, where are you doing to put it?

But besides pirates, I have had bounty hunters drop in after I have been interdicted by pirates, scan both of us and attack the pirate.
That is a nice touch too.

Nope. Still random. Doesn't matter if you're on a mission, have cargo or not, or what your rank is.
The ONLY thing that affects it is if you're pledged to a faction and then that just means you get interdicted 10x as much.
You're seriously overestimating FDEV's capabilities.

Well, I see NPC miners go and collect fragments all the time so I guess it can be done.
Would love to see that level of NPC interaction.
:)

In 1.2 I often saw NPC pirates go and scoop up my cargo. In 1.3, I see them sometimes steal cargo which I've stolen from a trader, which caused me to blast them. Just doesn't work with the supercruise pirates.

No, you get many more interdictions during missions. I took 5 missions once, and 3 NPC pirates tried to interdict me simultaneously at my destination system. :)
