New Nvidia Drivers 361.75 - Help Please

Maybe I am doing something wrong and could use a little bit of help.

I upgraded my NVIDIA drivers to the 361.75 yesterday and I am using he .6.0.1 run time for the DK2. What appears to be happening now after the update is that the DK2 is no longer recognized by the system when it is in extended mode. The Rift Configuration utility simply shows that there is no Rift attached to the system. This issue goes away when I place the Rift into HMD mode and everything appears to be working fine.

As everyone is aware Elite will not run in HMD mode and has to run in extended mode. The only thing that has changed is the Nvidia driver.

I have reinstalled the .5.0.1 run time and all appears to be working fine at this time. So the question is point blank am I the only one having the problem and did I inadvertently do something that would have caused the .6 run time to be unusable.

Sorry for the wall in advance but I thought it may add some insight. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Silly question I suppose but, why not just install 0.8 runtime and use Steam VR?

I'm on Windows 10 (IDK if that matters much) and the latest Steam VR beta, Oculus runtime 0.8 and it runs surprisingly well.

I have tried several times to get the Steam VR to work - unfortunately for me it is a complete judder fest... Even with tweaking it makes the game unplayable. Running windows 7 64 here and I have the horse power just waiting to buy the 980Ti to see if that makes a difference. Currently I am running the 780Ti and I think that may be the bottleneck.

It is not really an issue I just had to roll back on the run time from .6 to .5 and I was not sure if other folks are having the same issue with the new Nvidia Drivers or if it was something minor that changed that I did not see...
Thanks for the help however - yep it was tried...

Edit: I did not know that Steam VR released a new Beta maybe that will be worth giving a try again. I do have other games that I play in the rift and the switcher while effective is kind of a chore. I will give this a try sometime tomorrow afternoon and let you know.

Again thanks...

yep had same problem with steam vr but latest beta fixed my judder runs smooth direct mode, make sure you don't have oculus running cause conflict for me, just steam vr running and setup.

Sorry to derail a bit but, do you need to have ED installed through Steam to get "direct mode" to work? I assume (probably wrong) that means when in direct mode the GPU doesn't have to render to the monitor (mirror) and the DK2?

I ask because that's a lot of wasted GPU power, IMO. I'd love to be able to turn the monitor mirror off.

I haven't installed through Steam (yet) because I was going to stop the 30% from hitting Frontier but, if that helps with performance I may have to do just that.

@Stolas: I think (I'm really the wrong person to respond) Win 7 is your problem. I hate MicroSoft but, I have to say, despite the incoming "subscription" model MS will surely implement in the next year or two, Windows 10 really is a good OS, IMO and was the least painful OS update(?) I've done in 40 years. Also, it's "free" (for now) so if you have an extra SSD/HDD or space for multiple boot options, I'd give Win10 a whirl.

My apologies to Shirley.

[EDIT] Nevermind, doing a bit of catch up, apparently Win 7 works too?

Yep I have used Win 10 as well... the problem is I am not 100% sure that all my devices with the Alienware system are on the HCL. I could be wrong but I typically wait on new a new OS until the first service patch is released and is out for a bit... I am sure everyone remembers Vista... LMAO...

Thanks again for the reply and the help.

Edit: Misspelled Alienware.... LOL

I use the latest Nvidia drivers and 0.5 of the Oculus runtime on Win7 and it runs perfectly

Yep I was trying to stay on the 0.6.0.2 Run Time and something has changed with the Nvidia Drivers set. I did roll back to the older version of the Nvidia drivers and things are working fine at this point... thanks for the help.
