New nvidia drivers released 10th Feb.

Scared to install them after previous fiascos. Waiting for some brave, or reckless, guinea pig to come along and have a go first.

I'm feeling brave today so downloaded... Just waiting for ED update to finish before I see what kind of a train wreck I've just unleashed upon my poor old rig! :p

Well. I've just installed the drivers after receiving my second 980 gtx card and now it feels terrible. I'm hoping it's just the new drivers ! On a single card on previous drivers it was very playable but I still had some judder hence the reason for buying the second card. Now I have lag at intervals when I move my head and worse judder than when using just one card. I'll try reverting back to previous drivers first and see what happens.

My twin 980's (and previous 770's) beg to differ.

I have read a number of people with success with SLI. Can I ask Phier, how do you have your SLI set up and how are your Nvidia settings set ?

I have my DK2 set to 2nd display.

Here are my settings:

If I may ask, Elite just updated and I thought I would try the elite sampling in graphics settings but anything other than x1 sampling even on Low, just gets all juddery while looking around, I had the same issue when doing this in nvidia settings, using a single GTX970 was considering the SLI route by adding a second card, but see mixed responses on this..
Only want it for Elite and rift so dont want to throw £300 away on an extra card if I get no improvement.

Can anyone share their settings ?

Tbh I didn't even mess with the nvidia cpanel settings and it runs well
All I added were 4 DSR options to see which ran best.
Give me a few FPS examples and I'll let you know what I'm getting (goto the asteroid training for example)

Hi Steve, I have two GTX 970s in SLI. Your mileage may vary with the following settings depending on your setup, but maybe give it a shot:

I was getting bad judder and SLI lag until I changed these settings in NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Elite Dangerous :

  • Set SLI rendering mode to Force alternate frame rendering 2
  • Set Vertical Sync to Adaptive

In Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX:

  • Make sure SLI configuration is set to Maximize 3D performance
Lastly, in Set Up Multiple displays > Select displays you want to use

  • Turn on your Rift, then uncheck your other monitor(s).

From now on, when you turn on your Rift you other monitors will turn off and your Rift will become the Primary monitor and will get 100% of the SLI focus. When you turn off the Rift, your other monitors will turn back on. It makes launching the game a little trickier, but I found it helped. If you get good performance before this last step, then you can maybe avoid it, but I find it the most stable and reliable way to play the game in SLI.

SLI lag decreases with frame rate, so the higher you can push your performance, the less lag you will notice.

PLUS! Added bonus setting to fix the black smear/smeared shadows issue for anyone that has it:

In Adjust Desktop Color Settings, select your Rift then:
  • Set Brightness 55%, Gamma +0.95

This will make pure blacks just a touch brighter and get rid of the black smear issue.
