Newcomer / Intro New old player reporting back from the void and asking for "help"

If you have a few minutes then you might like this article (and the forum thread about the actual rescue):

There are other examples but that is the one that really caught people's imaginations.

I certainly do have a minute, dear sir, thanks! (y)

So I read the article and also part of the forum... That was just fantastic! Thank you so much! This makes the game even better!

Hmmm, you want to hear a story and maybe want to get some hints?
Well, that could be achieved Commander!

First, I want to redirect you to my very small "one page" homepage which provides you with some links, a small "first progress" throughout the first month and some screenshots about some "jewels" I found: http://www.teilweise.at/elite/
It's in english and it covers only the first month. -> As this page is already old, I tested the links and found that they are all active, doing what they should do - providing you with the data you want to read. Put them into good use! :)

I started my journey in November 2015.

After this first month, the following happened (so, better read the small "progress related part" on my homepage before):
After reaching the second waypoint "Outer Rim", I headed for the very end of the outer spiral-arm. It took me another ~40-50K LY to reach the end of this spiral-arm. In the end I couldn't go further, because the distances from star to star where too long. More then 34LY. So that was the one end of my journey. I made a break - about two or three years. And I shouldn't have done that, because in the meantime there happened two major releases of "Elite Dangerous" and somehow my data was "gone". I feared that all the time - and in the end I should have been proven right. Then I went back, doing the following:
I moved up the "disc" to the top, just to see how black and cold it is. And it is. Seeing some other galaxies. but nothing else. Then I went down to the very bottom of the disc - with the same result.. :))

I moved back crossing the gap between the outer spiral-arm to the more inner one. This was an adventure itself, because there are not that many stars - especially not that many fuelable ones. So I needed to calculate the fuel and jumps very precisely - and often I needed to turn back at ~ 50% fuel. I wanted to come back in one piece. So, in some regions it is important, that you really know the exact values of your ship. And sometimes you need to read the star map veeeery carefully. Do you know, that there are many filters in the map to find the stars you want? No?... :) Now you do :)

When you want to log out, do it please in a one-star-system - and travel far away from the star. Because you know: Planets are moving, while you are not online...

Then I had another break - and after some months, I came back and traveled back. Detail-scanning only the interesting systems. Otherwise it would have taken too long.
When I came back to the region of "Bernard's loop" and the "Witch head", I created my message here.

At the end, you need to know the following: You are alone out there. Totally alone. Only you, your damn ship and an ocean of stars and planets. The further you go, the longer it takes to come back.
Take your time, be careful when jumping to a new system - and ALWAYS HAVE A HEATSINK with you - that's a real life saver.
-> And maybe a repair system for your modules could be useful - I dunno that, because it wasn't available in the game, when I started my journey.

When you start your travel - take your heart and jump at minimum 1K LY, better 2K LY. Then start to scan.
Have fun doing so - and better prepare a nice playlist for your journey... :)

End of report.
CMDR Backbone. Alive and in one piece.
