Newcomer / Intro New Opinions

Hello New Commanders,
As most of you have noticed there are ships that are called "Fleet Carriers" out and about usually around major stations, not sure why, but some out a ways and some that you can't even use. I wanted to get your opinion on what FD has introduced concerning these ships and what is to come soon, Odyssey as most are looking forward for its arrival.... :)
As there are going to be a lot of posts that can't read or figure out why this is even posted in newcomers. Please ignore them cause this is just a question for you new players and your opinions whether good or bad.

Thanks New Commanders and I hope you are enjoying this title as it is a good game.
Hope to see you in the black....o7

They're owned by players, who can set up constraints on who can land on them and what you can do on them. When you buy them, there are loads of options for what services you can have on them, which you have to buy and pay an upkeeping cost. You can park them more or less wher you want. Go and earn about 10 billion, then you can afford to have one.

I'm afraid (as a Noob CMDR), Carriers mean absolutely nothing to me. Yes, I'll land on one (that is if allowed), hitch a ride on one to some distant system, but as to owning one, forget it. But that's just me. ;) I just hope they don't become all powerful, dictatorial, and dominate the exploratory part of ED with the potential huge jumps they can make. :(

It is misleading to think of them as ships, they are much closer to being personal mobile stations.
They can’t be flown anywhere but are jumped from one location to another.

Thank you @Wombat1940 for understanding the question and your opinion of them.
Thanks mate. There are threads/posts/U-Tube Clips which also provide CMDRs opinions on the same issue. Having read/watched many, I know I'm not alone in how I feel. However, each to his own. ;)

Demonlord79, you can play whatever part of this game that you want. I played the original Elite in the 1980s and started Elite Dangerous to continue this. I had little interest in landing on planets as space is big enough already so I just bought the basic Elite Dangerous. With the automatic update to Horizons I have now landed on some planets but my main interest is in the trading - so no close combat, etc. I joined Moibus Group https://elitepve.com/# as they disallow CMDRS attacking each other.

I have docked into a carrier to see what it was like; as you say, it is a floating docking station and beyond my desire. I will dock in one to trade if required but do not want to own one.

Odyssey is coming but I don't want a First Person Shooter, or have the time to explore on foot! So it is not for me.
