Proposal Discussion New opportunity to buy space station and planet name ?

Would others be interested in this ?

Would those that have bought so far have a problem with it being offered again ?

I couldn't afford it at the time but would now love to name a planet after my daughter and a space station after my wife

It doesn't offer any game play advantage to offer again and I don't think 'screws over' of cheapens the value of those that got in at the start.....does it ?

I would have no objection to allowing people to buy planet and space station names again. The more money that goes to FD, the sooner we'll be able to play the actual game, and the better it'll be.

Alas, I spent my gaming budget for this quarter on upgrading to Alpha.

Hey that's a cool idea I would like that as well as long as we get no extra game advantage . And it helps support Frontier Developments and if the Kickstarter backers don't disagree they earned the right to name Planets and Stations because they took a risk that a lot of us missed .

That's my thinking as well.....
There are, what? ....400 billion star systems, I don't think they've even said how many planets ?

I don't think it will affect anything by letting a few more planets and stations be named.
If previous backs don't think its fair, then I don't think there should be a 2nd round of naming offered.

But if those that have already named don't care ....then devs, lets us give you money !

Not that I bought the naming rights to a planet (or did I? Mmm, nope

), but there is a slight issue: the naming right of a system AFAIK we're not limited to naming but also included a short description of the planet background history and its general characteristics.

I may be mistaken, of course.

Therefore, while naming a system/planet/station could be something permanently available on the store, it wouldn't be quite the same "product" that was on the KS. But that is not a problem

What FD could do is to "reserve" a few systems/planets/stations in different places and political alignment (federation/...) that could made available to be named by players using IRL money. A few hundreds of each should suffice p.

Actually I was /trying/ to get the money together for the upgrade to planet during the closing phase of the original backers store, but couldn't quite manage it. Happy with my station though, looking forward to seeing the docking port with the emblazoned emblem 'Ryan Rocks Station'!

For me to name a station (it's a long story, and yes even Michael Brookes knows about it) would take me another £300 to achieve. Not sure even I can manage that.

Then if I did stump up that much, do I get DDF access?

Wasn't this a kickstarter reward, and an expensive one.
If you offer it again then surely it would lessen their purchase (ie early riskier money) for those people who stumped up the cash somewhat.

Star Citizen did exactly the same and caught an absolute s storm from the original backers about very similar issues.

Only way you could do it (without asking everyone who has one, and getting 100% consent) would be if you changed the KS reward to add something, or take something off what they have to the new pledge.
I did hear of free fees at owners station, but not heard it confirmed as yet.
Possibly storage if we get option of more than 1 ship for free.
In other words there could be possibilities for something, but I doubt it would happen as someone is bound to get upset, specially for the figures involved at that time (£500+ if memory serves).

Won't explorers be naming systems they discover in game IIRC? I recall it being suggested in the DDF, not sure if it went in?

I thought this thread was about station naming ?

Naming newly found systems is definitely a Star Citizen thing, don't recall seeing it in the DDF.

As far as I can remember No (that was my position anyway).

That would be a rather outstanding and unfair reward for a certain activity, when all should be more or less aligned in terms of effort/reward.

If they removed the extras as well as creating a backstory I could see it as being apples and oranges. Being able to create a custom backstory is pretty huge so dropping that seems more fair to me. Of course I didn't pledge so others may feel betrayed. I'm pretty sure FD could do it though as a method of increasing backing without any real in-game advantages given.
If it's somewhat affordable (I'm already in for £300) I'd love to name a planet or station with my wife in mind and it would be a cool name (Orchid Dawn).
