I am currently doing a bit of exploring while trying to find new planets and get my name on them as the first "Discoverer". I am finding planets which show their mapped status as Validating and some with no status for mapping at all. Therefore, I have mapped some of the unmapped and gone to a station to hand in the cartographic data. Will this put my name against the mapped status or do I have to do something else? Additionally, where do I find a list of those planets I have either discovered or mapped for the first time?

Any planets that you scan or map that have not previously been scanned or mapped by another player will get your name in the appropriate field once you sell the data.
The Validating name is a bug (for xbox players I believe) where there is a time lag before their name gets put in, but it does mean that it has been previously scanned / mapped.
Finding your name in the galaxy / system map will rely on you typically keeping a list of systems that you are particularly interested in. You may be able to check your game logs, and I believe there are a few third party tools that can get that info from the logs. Hopefully someone will come along and list them, as I simply write down on a piece of paper the systems I am interested in.

Thank you. I am on PC so not sure about the validating bug? I will hang around and see if my name appears later on. You don't have to sell the data at a specific system then?
No, just selling the data to any Universal Cartographics will do.
Are you saying that you are seeing validating on bodies that you scanned / mapped that were definitely unexplored (had no names for first discovered or first mapped)? I could be wrong about it being an xbox bug (it is though a bug), I have just never experienced it myself. Whenever I have sold data and then checked the map I see my CMDR name there.
