Newcomer / Intro New player, disappointed.

I'll make it pretty short because it's a pretty simple question. This game seems no different than Euro Truck Simulator in Space, with the occasional event of being car jacked by robbers (space pirates). On top of that, I'm in the online world and I have yet to see any other living soul and I have been around a few light years It feels like.

Is my comparison spot on or is it off? Im praying that it's off because I thought this game was something else entirely and am currently extremely disappointed to have supported it.

Thanks for your time.

Lots of players around the Lave area - but be careful there. Eravate is a newbie area and there are loads of players there too. Also check out the community goals which is often where you'll also find lots of players and interesting things going on.

It might also be a good idea to find people to play the game with because it offers a much more fun experience. ;) Loads of people looking for players in the group forums :)

yea I was all around in Eravate .. I'll give it another shot tonight.

Check out the Community Goals. Go to a planetary ring, find an RES and go bounty hunting.
Go touristy and see a neutron star or a black hole.

Sol and Lave are 2 areas where there are lots of players, but it's dangerous there (I mean it). Check GalNet news for information where something interesting is happening. The galaxy will always be empty, it's simply too large to be crowded (apart from said systems; Lave is iconic system from previous games, and Sol for obvious reasons, it's the craddle of humanity).

Also - upcoming Mac release should bring an influx of new players and PC and Mac will share the same galaxy, so there should be more people in the game (I don't think it will be very noticeable effect in reality, but still...).

Another thing to do is check for any player driven communities (there are a few different ones, both good and bad-boys: Emperors Grace, CODE, East India Company and more) and sign up for their ranks.

Last time I was in Eravate, there had been 30,000 ships through the system in the previous 24 hours.

You might have an issue that's gumming up the p2p instancing. If you're sure you're in Open and you're seeing no players in in Eravate, that would be my first thought

Also not a lot of HAND HOLDING in ED you have to find your own way.

None at all I would say. You can read the manual but there is a vast amount it doesn't cover. (I would recommend reading it anyway though and pay special attention to page 111). There is just so much you can do and so much to learn it would be a hopeless task to try and get it all documented in one place. You could try trawling through the forums searching for anything specific you want to try/know, or post a question. You will find most people here very helpful.

Probably your best option though is to find an experienced player to wing up with so that they can show you the ropes.

Hope that is helpful :)

In regards to not seeing anybody - make sure you play in Open mode, as opposed to Solo (where you only see AI ships) and Group (where you only see the members of the group you play in). Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, just want to make sure it's covered.

What TZ are you in? I am EST. I will gladly assist teaching you "the ropes". I am near Lave ATM. In game = Commander Tardis

You can play it as ETS in space if you like, however there is a lot more to do than that. I don't haul cargo at all any more, only ever did so to get some funds together back when other careers were much less lucrative. Now I play as a bounty hunter and get involved in the community goals when one comes up that I believe in -- and that does not involve trucking :)

This political/faction aspect of the game is set to be overhauled and much improved with version 1.3.

This will help a lot: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=80291

Well I figured out how to finally do station to station trading. I was having horrible luck killing anything in the sidewinder, much less finding them. Making a few credits to jump up to some larger value credit trades to increase the income a bit more then hopefully I can refit with some turrets that do some more damage. I've been hanging around in Eravator? I believe and type in local at every station I dock at and I have yet to get a response. It's mind blowing in a sad way.

Leesti system is packed full of players... I survived multiple interdicts last night and met a few more aussie players XD im west coast +8gmt

I've just started fighting in Combat Zones which are 20 vs 20 (mostly AI'S) crazy fighting, chaos but fun to stay alive and smoke lots of ships.

There are some similarities, but ED is not just ETS in Space

On top of that, I'm in the online world and I have yet to see any other living soul and I have been around a few light years It feels like.

If you are used to MMOs where you almost literally can't avoid bumping into other players, and there is always a good chance of meeting numerous strangers for PUGs, then ED will seem a bit strange. The instancing/islanding system and the sheer size of the gameworld mean that the only really dependable way to meet up with others is by arranging it off-line.

The suggestions above about certain areas are worth following up - I'd also encourage you to join an externally organized "alliance" (the FD devs are allergic to the word "guild"). Check the Groups thread on the forum for something likely.

Give it time, and don't expect ED to be something it isn't. It may not be what you wanted, but if you give it a chance you might find, as many others have, that it's great fun and very satisfying. The upcoming version 1.3 enhancements are expected to encourage more interaction. Once it is available I'd suggest you look at the NPC "Powers", pick one to back and find a player guild to join that is actively going to support that Power.

Well I finally figured out a lot of things, and resorted to space trucking for the time being because the sidewinder did crap for damage even after getting upgraded so I've kitted out a hauler and have it more or less maxed out in terms of hauling gear, and am looking to get a pvp type ship now
