new player here... died instantly while bounty hunting :o

I've been working on making my living bounty hunting, i've died a dozen times and lost a lot of money, no big deal, it happens, however this time i was counting my earnings while ftl drive was charging, full shields and 72% hull (sidewinder) and i blew up instantly...

is there any guns out there that would kill someone instantly? It was an npc according to game

A plasma shot from an Anaconda could do that. It could also be multiple rail guns being fired at the same time, or missiles. But my guess is that you just overheated. Always check your temperature!

Where you in the vincinity of another ship? A bigger one by chance? Was the drive taking a while to load why you were counting your earnings?

As you could have over heated and looking at another tab not seen the warnings.

Other then that, you could have been rammed by a bigger ship. As I can't think of any weapons that could strip your shields and hull in one shot.

Edit: Just read that you said it was an NPC according to the game. I'm going to go with you got rammed. Bigger ships can pretty much splatter smaller ships.

You were counting your money whilst the FTL drive was charging... Sound to me like the frame shift drive charged and was either waiting for you to align to your target, or throttle up. If you don't do this quickly heat builds up and at a certain percentage you take damage and it can make your ship explode. Maybe it was something like that?

Can be module destruction as well. This is how I'm taking out anything bigger than cobra. Just select power plant and destroy it. Target blows even it has 60% od hull or so... Same for fsd afaik. Also overheating as others sugested.

nah, the heat was low. It was inhibited by 10, but its set to just enter super cruise, not await for alignment, and even if i did over heat (which i didn't) that doesn't kill you instantly, i overheated to 180% all the time when i hyper cruise into things while not looking. there was an elite cobra near by, but i wasn't aware they could blow me up instantly. I have shield cell blanks but i didn't even have the human reaction time to pop them

Depends on the ship really. For sure a Sidey and Eagle can be 1-shot by bigger ships, especially if you have no pips in Shields at the time and no Hull upgrades. Happened to me once by my own sides Anaconda a while back in a conflict zone.

I had some pips in shields but i have no upgrades for either. Meh, just sucks cause i lost like 30k in bounties... which is a lot to me :D

It really does pay (literally) to go and cash those bounties in every so often. Tbh this is what kills most of us - greed and laziness. Got me a few times already. :D

Also I just had a nice bug .... I just stole someones bounty (i got the message in the top right saying i got a bounty for 5k and everything) went to turn it in, nothing there. Not in transaction tab either now that i look. Flew to a federation port just to make sure it wasn't glitching on empire. what happened to the 5k voucher ugh :/
