New player - how to upgrade guns/suits ?

So i took the plunge yesterday & got odyssey - overall its good but had some unplayable conflict zones where frames just tanked

but ive put so many hours in elite vanilla, have 3billion credits to blow - needed some new content

But there's surprisingly few guide videos for odyssey that i could find

I've bought 3 suits and few level 1 guns but howe do you upgraqde - sorry, how/where do get enough mats to upgrade?

The level 1 stuff is pretty unusable imo & i'm dying so quickly if encounter even a couple of bad guys - so finding it difficult to complete any sort of mission

Any start tips to get me going?

Afternoon.
Look at the mission boards and take missions that offer material rewards. Take missions to restore settlements or loot abandoned ones. Colonia seems to have the easier engineer unlock requirements. Upgrade suits and weapons via Pioneer supplies, visit engineers to modify suits and weapons.

Third party sites like Inara carry a lot of information, like engineers, their mods and their unlock requirements (don't try to fulfill any of their requisites unless you get prompted to in-game).

If you happen to have an Inara account already, you can use it to track your inventory and create custom "crafting recipes" to see what you need to complete which upgrades.

You could just get Grade 3 suits and weapons from the forum thread mentioned above somewhere and not bother with any engineering at all.
