Newcomer / Intro New player, just bought my first cobra...

Question. I was told I should start hauling with the cobra and build up from there. However I might want to bounty hunt some NPC's with it as well which would use an entirely different loadout then my hauling loadout. The question is this.... If I purchase different hardpoints and items for my cobra, can I switch between the different loadouts or will the previous items I purchased get deleted once I buy a new item for that ship slot?

It works like part exchanging, so if you buy a 1m credit laser and you have a 500,000 cr one you just pay the 500,000 if that makes sense

But yeah , once the deal is done you will have to buy back any you want again, and that Station may not sell them so you will have to find a station that does. I think the game should allow the player to just remove an item and store it rather than have to sell them

OMG that sounds horrible..... Now it sounds like I need to buy 2 cobras.... one for fighting and one for hauling......!

Thanks for asking that question. That is a bit disappointing not to be able to store your equipment. I'll need to keep that in mind.

You can spec out different configurations at the extremely useful website EDShipyard.

But, at least as things are now, not all modules are available everywhere and you sometimes need to hunt around a little to find the right ones. Typically systems with High Tech economies have more, but its still a hunt.

If you increase your reputation with the major faction - say become allied with the Empire - then you will find stations offering a bigger selection of modules.

You can outfit a Cobra with 40T of cargo space and still provide enough punch for combat. That's how I flew mine when I first started. Bit of trading, bit of bounty hunting.

The Cobra is a very versatile ship like that.

I've now completely gutted that ship for exploration (no cargo holds, no weapons, massive fuel scoop) and keep a Vulture for combat when the mood takes me.

Have a cobra for hauling and a viper for fighting. I found 6 RES near a starport and had the money for a viper fairly quickly.

I'm using a Cobra for hauling and fighting. It's got 32 tonnes of cargo space, fuel scoop so I don't have to worry about going further afield but still packing a pair of beam lasers and a pair of multi-canons.

Trading in rare goods is a good money spinner if you don't have much cargo space, and if you add a detailed surface scanner you can earn credits on the long runs between the rare good systems.
