Newcomer / Intro new player, my one and only criticism

Hi everyone

Let me preface this complaint by saying this game is excellent. 10/10. My one gripe is that when you shoot AI accidentally, you get a 200 credit wanted status - and everyone goes hostile. It is rather annoying. Perhaps take a game like Freelancer's approach where the AI warns you the first shot then will attack after that.

Or make it so I can pay off wanted status immediately within my ship (if it is lower than 1k?) so that I don't need to run away to a base and hope I am not scanned.

Agreed, it is annoying, very annoying, but it can be avoided. When I upgraded to a Vulture I started to get them every 10 minutes in a Res until I started paying more attention. Never get them any more.

I thought they fixed this a few updates ago to be based on amount of damage within a set amount of time. I was playing around in a conflict zone the other week. I clearly hit a friendly as he flew through my auto-cannon stream. I got no warning, no bounty, no fine and was not instantly "wanted" and aggro'd by everyone.

They improved it, but have not totally "fixed" it. Not sure how you determine FF from plain aggression.
BIG weapons like on a Vulture are so strong that they are above the "sorry mate" limit

Try avoiding it in a ship equiped with turrets !
As i've killed rather a lot of npc pirates they now spawn red in wings and immediately open fire, soon as i target them to 'scan' my turrets open fire and i'm wanted. ONLY fix is to not use turrets :(

I kind of like this design. The bigger and badder you are the less leeway the local fuzz give you.

The only part of the design I don't like is how PC targets take priority of NPC targets regardless of reputation and bounty amounts. I look forward to that system getting a little attention.

I think the mechanic is perfectly valid. You should never shoot an innocent, regardless of how eratic their flying is. (unless you're a pirate of course)

It's another lesson the game has that you need to learn around. I did it once when I first started (back when it was instant fine for a single stray shot) and saw what happened, adjusted my behaviour, never done it again.

Elite is chock full of lessons, which is part of its charm.

Conflict zones are like anarchy system everyone is clean and you cannot get a wanted sign no matter who you hit with your weapons ;)

Yeah, but chase an opposing ship too far (because its pilot has lost control and the ship is hurtling out into the black at high speed) and you can end up picking up a bounty for finishing it off.

I actually ended up with a bounty for murder once after chasing after a crippled Anaconda that was drifting away from a warzone.

LOLZ.... just nope

it's a basic premise of Elite Dangerous... stop trying to change it to easy mode or another game... play the other game and go to that game forum and try the same bleating .... it's so naff

I'm sorry but this is the "Newcomers Forum" advice etc... wanna whine or change the game to suit yourself... post in here

have a wonderful week :)

Have you tried switching your targeting to leading? I found that I have better control over who I hit when I switched.

It's hard to disagree with any of this- valid criticism. I think all of that stuff is due a bit of an overhaul, and look forward to it when we eventually get one.

Welcome to ED, btw :)

Damn! Why is it that people find the need to put other players down for asking a simple question about friendly fire? In many FPS and PVE games, if you hit someone with friendly fire, you are given several warnings before you're flagged as hostile. I think that's what the OP was trying to get at. No need to be snarky friend; we're trying to learn the game.

My friend you have all the necessary qualities to carve out a fine career for yourself as a care and guidance counsellor. That's if you are not one already of course.

I use turrets all the time and like them - F2 Beams - but only ever have them set to fire at 'Target Only'. Having them 'Fire at Will' can really cause problems. You are likely to hit and enrage almost anybody within range - including the local window cleaner on his way to clean the portholes at the nearest Hub station.

I'll give you all the help you ask or need... this is a request for a game mechanic change... you do understand the difference??????

This subject has been beaten to death... to get a fine you have to hit

a) a unshielded friendly

b) cause enough damage to the shielded friendly to bring it down and hit his hull

c) fire upon a un scanned ship (firing to early)

Now what help do you need ?

I suspect none at all ... and your comments about snarky is just a throw away sneaky way of drawing attention to a hand being smacked.... just use "the report this post" button ... bottom left next to the "rep" toggle

now ... have a nice week :)

I try........

As I've already commented to our friend above.... I'll help anyone with the game, it's foibles, quirks and sometimes baffling routes from A to B.....

Laziness and just downright bleating is just so damn tedious

( And no................ I'm not in the Customer Relations ( bum wiping ) Sector)

I think you've completely missed my point.
With turrets set to target only, a red ship (ie hostile to you) attacking you, you must target him in order to do even a passive scan. The instant you target a red ship your turret will shoot him and because you haven't yet scanned him (fully) you get a wanted status.
If you run turrets and have not yet encountered this i'd be very surprised, whilst hunting in a RES eventually you will get a wing of red ships baying for your blood, yet you can't defend yourself even though they are pirates without getting a fine and therefore a 'wanted' status.
