New Player needs a little help

Hi all,

first, I love this game. I don't know what I'm doing, but I love it.

Could anyone point me in to the right direction on how to make credits at the beginning? I'm at station Az... can't recall the name :S. Anyways, after crashing my first Sidewinder while attempting to land *smile* I was able to land and open the mission board. The problem is, the two cargo missions I can't do due to not enough space in my Sidewinder and the "kill xzy" i can't do because apparently I don't have enough fuel to jump to that system where the bad guys are located (Wyrd).
So how do I go about making credits at the start?

Thanks!

P.S please disregard any typos and such, I'm currently fighting with the flue. Yes I shouldn't play, but I had to at least give it a shot :D.

Also check the bulletin boards for any missions, just make sure you have enough space to carry the items and remember to fly back to get your reward.

Always check out bulleting boards - sometimes you get lucky and there is a cargo hauling mission requiring just 1 ton of capacity (and it can pay quite well) - then you load up the other three tons with various goods you can sell on your way to/from the mission destination. Double profit!

and the "kill xzy" i can't do because apparently I don't have enough fuel to jump to that system where the bad guys are located (Wyrd).

I also went for that mission yesterday.

To get to Wyrd you need to:

1- Open Galaxy Map
2- Type Wyrd in the system search box, the map will center around it, while showing your location with a blue inverted arrow marker.
3- Now, go to the navigation pane (still within in the galaxy map) and click on the "Destination" button.
4- You ll see some dotted lines linking your system (Eranin, where Azeban is) with a path that will lead you to Wyrd. If I remember correctly it is somehting along the lines of: Assellus Primus, Dahan, BD-415, Morgor, Wyrd.
5- Your Sidewinder does not have enough fuel/drives capacity to jump straight to Wyrd so you ll have to do all these smaller jumps to get there.
6- Get out of Azeban station, far enough for your "mass lock" indicator to swicth off
7- Open your ship navigation panel (left of the HUD) and click on the first system of the "dotted line" trail leading to Wyrd that you saw in the galaxy map. That would probably be Assellus Primus.
8- Select "Lock" for Assellus Primus so your ship navigation system knows you want to jump there.
9- A little yellow square will appear in your mini radar (small radar top right of your main radar in the middle of the screen). The little square will be hollow if your destination is behind you, solid if in front . Try to align with it.
10- Once aligned you ll see a big round indicator through your canopy indicating Assellus Primus location in actual space along with a distance marker, usually a few light years (LY) away.
11- Go full throttle and hit the Hyperspace button
12- Off you go to your first way point
13- Once arrived locate the next system in the "dotted line" chain in your galaxy map. It will probably be Dahan.
14- Go to 7 and rinse and repeat until you get to Wyrd. Keep an eye on your fuel gauge on the right and see if you may need to go to any of the system stations during your travel to refuel. Fuel is very cheap.

Now once in Wyrd, the actual mission is not fully straight forward. The mission briefing talsk about attacking some civilians and how local authorities may have been briefed and bribed to allow oyu to hit those civilians.

I have not yet found those civilians but there seems to be a lot of cargo haulers around the space station... when I tried shooting them the local authorities just killed me... so that may not be the right place to look! :D

I found civilians in wyrd at a nav beacon near the star.
Don't know if they were the right ones, still got a bounty for attacking them, got killed before getting back to the station so unsure if there was a reward waiting or not.

Lol... well at least you and I both can say the new security and police system works!:D

Not everyone would agree but I've always maintained that your first few thousands of CR's are best made doing combat.

Now this might seem like a wall of text, in fact it's not that difficult to do, I'm just explaining stuff as best I can. So, the easiest way to do this legitimately is:

- While docked at Azeban City open the bulletin board and look for the mission to take down Eranin or Federation ships that pays 500CR on completion. You will also get 350CR per kill.

- It's important to take note of which faction they want you to destroy (it will be Eranin or Federation) and accept the mission.

- Undock and head towards the planet called Eranin 2 (you can select this on the left panel, default key 1). Remember to put your landing gear up (default key INSERT or INS).

- Put all pips in engines (default key UP ARROW) and boost a few times (default key TAB) to get away from the station.

- When the blue mass lock light on the right hand side goes out, engage the frame shift drive (default key J). Remember to keep your throttle in the blue area while in this "supercruise" mode - the chances of overrunning the destination that way are dramatically reduced.

- When you get within 20Ls to this planet, you should see other circles appear in your view near the planet; slow down a little and point your ship at them until you find the one called "Federal Distress Signal". Then head for that.

- If the throttle is still in the blue area your ship will start to slow down on approach to the combat zone. Once within 1,000 km the blue message to disengage supercruise should appear (default key J). If not, slow down until it does. If you overshoot, travel away from the destination for several seconds, then loop back and try again.

- After disengaging supercruise you should drop into the zone about 5km from the navigation marker - don't instantly boost towards it, just sit still for several seconds. I say this because it takes a little time for all the ships to pop into the instance. You don't want to be inside that big ship when this happens!

- Now remember or check from the left Missions panel who your target faction is, then go to the right hand panel and select the opposite faction. For example if it says kill Federation, go to the right panel and choose to be on the Eranin side. Don't worry if you choose the wrong side, just supercruise out and back into the area, then you'll be able to choose sides again.

- You'll probably see several red icons on your scanner now, and hopefully just as many green :p Shoot at the reds! You should also receive 350CR per kill (although it doesn't go straight into your bank account).

- With the starter lasers I personally have full pips in weapons (default key Right Arrow). Of course it's up to each person what energy they have where.

- Selecting the highest threat (default key H) will save time looking around. Also try to stay near some green guys - they're your allies and may well save your backside.

- This mission has the caveat that you must not die - so at this point if you get attacked, don't be a hero; just put full pips in engines (key Up Arrow), retract your weapons (key U) and run away! Normally you can outrun the NPCs while your sheilds recharge. Or if you're really being hammered just supercruise out of there, and if damaged, back to Azeban City to repair. I would save retaliation for later on when you have more money, skill and confidence.

- Once you reach 5 kills the message "Objective Complete" will appear at the top, notifying you that the mission is complete. However as with each kill, the mission reward does not instantly go into your bank account.

- At this point it's worth heading back to Azeban City to collect your rewards. Retract your weapons (default key U), point towards Azeban City and engage supercruise.

- Once docked, open up the Bulletin Board and select the completed mission on the bottom left, and hand it in for your reward. Then go back and choose Contacts from the station menu, then Local Security Office. From there you'll be able to cash in your kill vouchers.

That's your first 2,250CR :) The same mission may be available again, or even other missions, or you could start trading with the 3,000CR+ you should have by now. Agri-Medicines from Aulin to Eranin nets you around 1,700CR in a Sidewinder, although there's probably better routes. I haven't done much trading in Beta yet. Generally buy where there's high supply and sell to where there's high demand.

Hopefully this helps people, if not I'm sure someone else will do a tutorial video if they haven't already.

Above all, stick with things and don't get disheartened if you explode all the time. That's what the free Sidewinder is for ;)

Great guide. I came on for the first time last night and went into solo and selected the Wyrd mission. With the help of various posts I got to Wyrd this morning, but the mission screen says 'No active missions'. Did something get lost between logins?

Was watching you do all the above on twitch last night while I was waiting for download to finish (i.e. thanks for the stream).

Looked like easy money right enough.

Could be the mission timed out. I flew one mission to move some cargo and it gave me 4 hours to do that.

Hmm, may be so, especially if the time between those log ins was larger than the time allowed in the briefing of the mission?

I was hoping that log off time didnt count towards in game mission time, but maybe it does.

Finding ships

Thanks for the thread for beginners.

I just navigated randomly, then docked in another system and chose a mission to find some ship (with a specific name) and destroy it... however there is no indication of where to find it (finding iot seem to be part of the mission).

Is there a way to find ships? (dialog with other ships?) Or do I need some specific equipment for this and thus I just have attempted a mission not fit for a beginner?
