Okay, I'll admit I retreated to solo for a while for some CGs, but seeing as there are no CGs currently i went back to open today.
Decided to hit an RES to earn a little extra scratch for Powerplay, and was doing pretty well. In fact I did pretty overall for the day, even scoring my 1st intentional PvP kill.
Now, I'm not a PvPer by any stretch of the imagination. But I am experienced in space and flight sim PvP. So I finish off an Anaconda, when I pick up a CMDR flown Eagle, displaying Green to me in the Same RES, my scan shows he's pretty beat up, and flagged as Clean tangling with 3 NPC ships, Cobra and two eagles, all Master NPC pilots.
So here's my mistake: I went to help this guy. I took the untouched Cobra off his tail, and knocked it out, then shot the engines out of one the eagles.
So what does CMDR Newguy do? Yells at me for being a killstealer and attacks me, In his 47% hull, no shields Eagle. WHILE HE STILL HAS AN NPC TRYING TO KILL HIM (I was flying my close to top shelf Vulture myself, C3 Beam Lasers, full shields, etc) Even with his ship at 100% the poor guy would not have been a match for me.
After his first salvo, it seemed as if his Pulses were set to tickle. So I put a quick shot into his tail, and dropped his hull another 10%, then took out the two remaining NPCs he was fighting.
I told him if he wanted to die that badly, next time I'd let him, then start to go on my way. Then he attacks again, this time firing missiles in addition to his tickle guns. My PDG easily handles his missiles, and I spin around on him and put a sustained burst directly into his cockpit glass, leaving him at 10% hull.
I put full power to engines and boost away, while telling him to go repair. I really didn't want to kill the guy, cost him a rebuy and his vouchers because there is enough of that crap that goes on anyway.
Results were predictable. He came back at me, draining his cap from max range. 1 second burst, and he was done, never even wore down my first layer of shields.
In short, if you're new, don't pick fights you can't win. Especially with the more experienced guy trying to help you. There are a few of us around.
