To all new players,

We need your help at Hutton Orbital. If you have a ship capable of making it to the Alpha Centauri system, please consider taking a trip out there and head to Hutton Orbital.

There is currently a Community Goal going on there to provide scrap metal to the outpost.

Participating in the goal will earn you credits and the possibility to purchase a new rare good called the Hutton Mug, which can eventually earn you many thousands of credits profit per ton.

Currently even delivering just 1T of cargo will net you a reward of 100000 credits, and this is likely to rise exponentially as further goal tiers are met. The more you deliver, the more credits you will earn.

The good news is - there are some altruistic commanders already located at Hutton who will provide you the scrap for free, no questions asked.

Why? Hutton Orbital can only accept smaller ships on the docking pads there, and we need to ship as much cargo as possible. Commanders in large ships are waiting and appealing for smaller ferry ships to offload and scoop their cargo.

This is also a great community goal and you will get to meet some of the long term players of the game out at Hutton, and also in supercruise on thew way there.

The bad news - Hutton Orbital is located 0.22LY from the jump in point, so it will take you about 90 minutes to fly from your jump in point to Hutton. However, as a ferry ship once you arrive at Hutton, you can scoop up cargo from other commanders and you don't need to make the journey again (unless you want to).

On the long journey, tune into Hutton Orbital Radio for music, news, and updates on this Community Goal. Just google Hutton Orbital Radio to find it. There is also a facebook group and twitter, and a thread on the forum here:

One last warning - make sure you have a full tank of fuel before setting out. Smaller ships are at risk of running out of fuel on the way to Hutton.

If you do happen to run out of fuel, don't panic. Log out immediately, and contact the fuel rats. Fuel Rats are on standby at this Community Goal and they will come and transfer fuel using a re-fuelling limpet to save you.

So, all you need is a tank of gas and a ship with any amount of cargo space - get yourself out to Hutton, and announce on the comms that you are here as a ferry ship to help ferry cargo to the outpost. Using the secret password "Any old Iron" will help as well. Plenty of commanders there to help out if you need advice.

Once you dock at Hutton for the first time, go to the bulletin board and sign up for the Community Goal - it's the first mission on the bulletin board. This will ensure that your cargo is counted for the CG.

This CG will be active until next Thursday, so we would really appreciate any help you can give out there.

Oh, and obviously you will need to be in open play mode to get scrap from other commanders. Don't worry about pirates - the players already at Hutton have organized protection against any pirates who attempt to intervene.

See you in the void commanders.

Yes but only 1.
You may have to wait if in open, I believe some are acting as docking control assigning a queue number (or line if you are American) :)

does hutton orbital have a medium pad for a python to land?

You can cheat a bit by going into solo to land if you have a full cargo load already. However people are having a lot of fun organizing a makeshift ATC at the starport and assigning the next ship in the queue for landing.

Update - the Community Goal has now reached tier 2, so the minimum reward is now 200000cr.

See here for this amazing live twitch stream of Hutton Orbital where commanders are taking it in turns to use the one medium pad available. There are multiple pads for small ships so you can land more easily in ships that don't need a medium landing pad.

(Actually I think I'm not allowed to post external links so you will have to search Hutton Orbital on twitch to find it).

Yes it does, but it's a bit congested in open.

I had issues earlier where it went a bit wrong, gave me docking permission for about half a second, then a new commander would appear to spawn in front of me and be able to dock. Almost as if there were errors with the island/shard/instance/whatever.

The Hungry Hippos competition sounds fun, but I've never flown a T9. no way am I going all that way without shields. It does sound like you are going to have a lot of scrap canister breakage though and I'd like to be there to lend a hand. Is there a convoy leaving for Hutton tonight? And what time does it leave?

You don't have to fly a T9 - you can come in a smaller ship (medium landing pad or less) and team up with someone in a T9 to unload cargo. For the last 5 days there have been almost constant T9s and Anacondas giving away scrap next to Hutton Orbital. If you can't find out, shout out on the CG threads and someone will let you know an ETA.

I've seen many other unshielded ships out there and there are brave commanders attempting to defend the unshielded ships if any pirates arrive.

Also if you do fly a large ship, you can equip shields but you'll take a small time penalty for that (to equate to the amount of cargo space you have lost which means it will take less time to unload).

There has been a convoy each day of the CG so far. The last one last night was starting from Wolf 424 at 6pm UK Summer time. Check the facebook group Hutton Orbital mug community goal team for details.

Is this CG still active? I am new to the game [around a week] but have been doing a lot of smuggling in my loaned sidey. I have cash to upgrade to a new small/multi ship, but I am based near XIHE atm. Am I likely to make it to Hutton still, and are there still folks dropping scrap out? I am also a little curious as I have not used a scoop in this incarnation of Elite, so may make a complete tool of myself! Cheers, The Hat :)

Another 2 days I think but I don't think a sidy can make the run on standard fuel tanks. If you travel there at a busy them then there will probably be people giving away scrap but just take 1 tonne with you to get on the ladder.

There have been some reports of Player ganking recently but I've not experienced it, was very peaceful the 4 times I went.

Hi - good to hear from you. The CG is still active until Thursday morning UK time.

In a Sidewinder you will need help to get all the way to hutton as you'll run out of fuel on the way without assistance, but we can try to organize an escort for you. What's the best ship you can afford right now?

Hi guys. I have at least 250k in the bank right now, and although I accept it will take me a 90 minute trip to get from the NAV to the post, I am unsure how I will get there from Xihe. I am keen to join in though, but perhaps as I am really new I should sit this one out. Hmmm....

You need to go to the Alpha Centauri system - you can plot a course to it in the galaxy map. It's only about 50LY from Xihe.

Try to get hold of some scrap as cargo on the way. Scrap for sale at Wolf 424 and other systems nearby. Even just 1T of scrap will get you a 300K reward on Thursday (and probably more if we hit the next tier).

If you're in a Sidewinder, you'll either need to bring a fuel scoop and refuel at the first jump in star in Alpha Centauri, or refuel at the al-din prospect which is the first station when you arrive in the system. Then it's a 90 minute trek to Hutton. I've been told on the CG thread that a Sidewinder can make the trip as long as you refuel when you arrive at the first star in Alpha centauri.

If you want to go at 6pm tonight, or at 8.30pm tonight, there is a convoy going there meeting at Wolf 424.

You will get a special welcome if you come in a Sidewinder - we've only seen a few out there - announce yourself as a new commander just playing since last week.

For 250K you could just about buy a Cobra Mk III but be careful to leave enough insurance.

You could also buy an Adder which is cheaper.

Edit: If you've already fitted upgrades to your ship, when changing ships, sell or downgrade everything on your ship to the cheapest components before you sell your current ship - you get 100% value back for selling upgrades, but you'll lose 10% of the ship hull value when you sell.

Upgrade your frameshift drive to make bigger jumps, and your cargo hold, but be careful to leave enough money for insurance (although I think the game will lend you the insurance money anyway when it's a cheaper ship).

You can friend me in game if you like I am Commander Javert (same as forum name).

There are commanders in Alpha C that will help even if you get into trouble and run out of fuel for example - if you run out of fuel - log out immediately and go to the fuel rats website and follow their instructions. They are nice chaps who will come to you with a fuel limpet and give you more fuel.

Awesome! I have decided to make the trip just for a bit of fun if nothing else. I am planning on picking up a bit of scrap at Wolf as you say. At the moment the only change I made was to upgrade my FSD which will help. I'll stay in solo mode until I make the jump to AC, then join Open. I'll give you a shout if I work out the conversation function in flight, and certainly give you a nod - thanks of course for the help!! I will save before the final jump, and see what range I have to get to the first station after jump, then if I find I'm a bit buggered, I'll go back and add a fuel scoop, although I may just do one instead of the discovery scanner if I can.

Do I need to register anywhere before I dock at Hutton, or is it that once docked I need to register on the BB before I make any sales. Cheers. Hope to see you all there :)

I'll be hanging around outside Readdy Gateway just before 6pm. If you are lucky you will be in the same instance as me (or possibly unlucky :) ).

If your commander name isn't the same as your forum name, give a shout out on comms - press enter for quick comms if you haven't changed your key bindings. Say you are a new commander making the trip for the first time.

As said previously, in a Sidewinder you might need to refuel at the first station near the jump in point.
