New Power arising

Just checked galnet, looks like a new power calls "The Armada" is going to spring up in Kremainn. The 3 systems mentioned are Hudson space so presumably we will lose those systems on the next cycle.

Undermined in all our fortification systems ... maths on overheads against us ... now we lose systems to a new power? Times are tough for Hudson.

On the one hand, FD absolutely love player-group driven news stories. I've learned this since starting writing for Galnet. But on the other hand it is surprising, as Adle's Armada are NOT a Power yet and will have to work very hard to become one. So far the door has been barred to Player Powers.

GALNET news - First new power incoming?

Ok maybe not, but the following news item (originally created by players!) sure made it sound like it:
Federal Vigilantes Defy All Galactic Powers

A long standing Federation leaning vigilante group has announced today that it is declaring itself its own sovereign power, defying all of the great galactic powers in what members of the groups are calling a struggle between "politicians, slavers and warlords."

The Armada will instead be working to create its own system of governance, based upon its own particular rules of law. The Armada will remain headquartered in the Ngaliba system, where it has resided since 2900 as a Federal detachment of a classified inter-factional combat force. Post Commander Tyllerius Adle pulled his force out of the secretive organization in 3200, re-branding his group as "Adle's Armada” in the process.

In 3301 the Armada still shrouds its self in secrecy and only recruits the finest and cleanest of conscience combative pilots into its ranks.

The group has been known to spring up in times of need to defend the defenceless against forces that seek to to evil in the Galaxy. Adle's Armada will now be acting as its own power in the universe, with members of the group operating primarily in the Ngaliba, Mbukuravi and Kremainn systems.

GalNet reached out to members of Congress for comment, but at time of press had received no reply.

In their original announcement, actually being added to powerplay did not seem to be one of their goals. Still, congrats to Adle's Armada for getting posted on Galnet! And good on FDev for doing so--just reading this news item makes one consider the possibilities...

I hope not. Not because I don't like the idea of this power as it is presented in GalNet, or a power rising from a player-started story in the general, but when I read things like this in their announcement thread:

  • Expert+ Combat rank

  • Vulture+ Combat fitted

  • Money for insurance rebuys

  • Good PvP experience

  • Teamspeak 3 WITH mic.

It's basically a PvP clan with a strong Federation-alignment; nothing wrong with that in principle, but any actual ingame power would accept anyone into their ranks, because that is how the game mechanics work. I would be surprised if they would appreciate their group to become a power only for its ranks to be filled with lots of people without Vultures and PvP experience or the willingness to burn lots of money in PvP.
Heck, I could even join such an actual ingame power and I hold the Imperial rank of "King", which goes directly against their statute. :D

i have been betting strong since the PP beta that this was the intention whit the PP design to let role playing groups rise into new powers-
still to early to tell and i am still keeping my fingers crossed, but i am starting to like my odds more and more :)

There was already a thread from someone else saying "first new extra group?" followed by a lot of explanations that no that was not the case. Mods, please merge.

Errm!! Has the original plan changed now then, from not allowing player groups to own systems, ala Eve. To seeing alliances forming and claiming vast tracks of the Galaxy as their own. Of course it wouldn't be Eve like as players could always ply trades in private groups and solo in the appropriate areas. but in open there would be similarities. But it does throw up some new and interesting alternatives.

New Power incoming: Adle's Armada

Read the Galnet news!

The new power will be based in the Ngaliba system

Em.. no... Adle Armada is a player group and this was a player generated news. They call themselves power (which is stupid really, since they have no influence in a galaxy, but hey... props for roleplaying). If FD starts to make player groups into powers then they would really ruin the whole PP system. Powers are suppose to be influential groups/people in the galaxy (lore wise), not a small group of people. Think about it.. Any minor faction has more members than any player group, then every minor faction should be power too.. Silly concept.

Why is it stupid?
If some players form a group, invest hours and hours into pushing their minor faction to spread, influence other systems... why shouldn't they be awarded by turning their little group into a power. Small power, but power nonetheless.

I like the concept and idea of powers created by players.

That's emergent gameplay.

If done right they could push the factions they assist to control several systems.

Any way to join said group?
