New pvp mission system

So while brainstorming with my squadron we came up with an interesting idea..

As an example lets say someone is murdering players in a certain system, wouldnt it be cool if a mission popped up on the boards like "destroy the criminal cmdr whoever"

I think this could create a whole new career path for pvp players aswell as deter greifers from wasting energy destroying unarmed vessels.

Lemme know your thoughts everyone as im sure there are flaws to this rough idea :)

O7 commanders

Well THAT would be nice, especially with right payout those kind of missions could be succesfull both on providing content for some players and also on adjusting behauviour of some others. Also mission type against whole wing to deter gankers...

The local news in a system already has a "top 5" bounties list containing
- player name
- player ship
- bounty amount
- last recorded location

You can get on the list by things other than killing players, especially in a quiet system where a 500 credit trespass will get you 4th place ... though if someone has a multi-hundred-million bounty they've probably been doing *something* worth hunting them down over, whatever it was.

Payout is capped to 2 million credits per kill - so 8 million between you in a wing, or perhaps 8 million each / 32 million between you if there was a full wing of them - but there's always going to be more profitable activities out there and that's not a bad payout for an assassination.

Why not give it a go?

Why limit to assasinations/takedowns? Have a wing mission for escorting valuable cargo, while simultaneously posting a piracy wing mission to get that cargo. If the "other side" hasn't been picked by commanders, have an NPC wing appear instead. Smuggling missions to run illegal goods to a station, while the stations post missions to seek out smugglers. And so on and so on.

The bounty board has several limitations: you don't know if the perps are in Open or not, or which time zone they are one, etc. At least the last recorded location should have a timestamp. Preferably give some other means of tracking perps - maybe hints from friendly/allied stations in the inbox? Or ability to deploy probes to systems, and have them alert you when the ship you're looking for enters the system? Enabling vigilantes to actually hunt down notorious criminals would also deter ganking and murder.

So how do we stop abuse of this?

So we are a group of players, I set out to kill my friends. Now the mission to stop the player killer spawns, and the rest of the players, now takes this mission and kills me. And players reap the reward of the mission, and we can start over again...

And of course, we will not do this in expensive ships, we do this in sidewinders, and there is no real costs to get killed...

So the obvious suggestion to combat the using sidewinders is to base this on the ship rebuy.. but we can't do this of the targets, as that would simply promote newbie bashing even more. So lets place this on the attacking ship, so I simply whip out my 1 Billion Cutter or Corvette, and kill the sidewinders in, and then I go and swap ships. and get killed in my sidewinder.... sure, my big ship is still hot, but who really cares, if you are doing this kind of stuff....

And this is just the most obvious abuse of this kind of system, and this is also one of the reasons the why they limited the payout for wanted players, as this could be abused.... Especially if we would add more than 5000 bounty for killing a clean target.
