New Rift use - WOW !!!

Just finished installing 1 hour ago.

Ignoring the graphics, compared to my superb 4k monitor, WOW !!!!!!!!!!!
The headlook is fantastic, love it and see huge potential when we get more pixels in future hardware :)

I have set HMD to 1.5 , is there any point going higher if I have the GCard juice ?
(Super sampling is left at 1.0)

Any advice on other settings would be appreciated :)

It's ever so good isn't it  :D

Have you felt any nausea yet? I found the worst place for that is tonning it along in the SRV.

It's personal preference, and I recommend you experiment.
Just remember you need to exit to menu and reload before it actually triggers a change.

Personally I find the penalty to fps to great to even bother with any kind of SS above 1x in ED.
I honestly don't we much real difference, perhaps some slight sharpening and added Moire, the latter if which I despise with a passion, from the downsampling process inherent in the system.

Regardless of what you render at, the images are scaled back down to native resolution and the benefits of SS is really slim to none.

Yes I am aware I have a stricter definition of benefits than virtually everyone.

In a nutshell, I would consider, benefits, as revealing detail I would otherwise not see.
And I find it doesn't. In my opinion it's closer to adding a tinge of false sharpening and the aforementioned moire artefacts.

Anyhoo, welcome to the club. I personally can't be bothered to play on a screen anymore.
And that includes the option of an ultra wide monitor, my 65" UHD tv. Or even the projector on a 90" screen.

It's VR all the way for me.

So apart from HMD there are no other settings ?

What about the texture in GraphicsConfiguration.xml , worth playing with them ?

ty :)

A small thing I’d suggest is forcing 16x Anistropic filtering through your GC menu - the game Ultra setting is 8x and I think 16x makes planet surfaces pop just that little bit more while in the SRV.

Use pixel density setting in oculus debug software instead(in the same exe folder) gives better image quality. and use 2.0.

You're gonna get a thousand different opinions on settings from everyone. It's admittedly very subjective. A common refrain is to try raising ss a tad (just to 1.25), get your fx and texture settings to taste, and then raise the hmd quality up until your system starts to squeal, then back off a little. The higher you go with hmd quality, the more you'll see diminishing returns. IMHO anything over 1.8 is useless.

Also, definitely take time to test out your settings in different situations. You'll get a much higher load in res sites, while landing, docking, etc.

This is some good info on what the different settings do:

How ? which setting ?
I only found this debug tool.
(sorry for being dense)

It's at the top as "pixel density override".

There is no real difference with the setting in the debug tool or in game.
The recommendation to use the debug tool was ok two years ago when we didn't have the HMD-Q setting in game.
so why go through the hassle of having to launch and configure the debug tool every time you launch?

If you find that you do get motion sickness while driving the SRV back out of the game straight away. It is possible to build up a resistance to it, but this requires you not to push it (otherwise it will set you back).

Wait until you get to look around the bridge of an Anaconda (it is HUGE), but take care when standing up in the cockpit of a Sidewinder, as you might crack your head open on the canopy!

Because I don't know any better, or that they are the same thing :)

I can swear that the image is sharper using debug tool instead of HMD in game. I tested a lot and saw a difference. Dont know why though.

My setup :
I play only sitting down games(so don't need to be mobile for OR)
1080 ti
gen 3 i7 3770k so about 4 years old
Pre OR : Using max settings in ED and my 4K monitor I get about 30-60 fps with 30-40% CPU and 40-90% GPU, depending on location

More questions for the VR vets :D
1) Somewhere I read "3rd camera on ceiling" ??? How many cameras does my stock OR have ? what is a 3rd camera for ?
2) An on screen small mirror window opens when in ED, should I shut it down to get better FPS in OR ?
3) Do I need a 3rd sensor ? or another camera ? any other accessories ?
4) Essential OR software I should be using ?
5) SLI working or not in OR ?

ty :)

You can use, as Debug tools alternative, Oculus TrayTool. It have lot of options to play with (automatic switch audio when using rift, automatic switch ss by game profile, switch off/on the oculus service,.....)
You can check this post in the official oculus forum to know much about this nice little soft : https://forums.oculusvr.com/communi...ng-profiles-hmd-disconnect-fixes-hopefully/p1

Cheers :)
Before I download, it is 2 years old, you sure I should play with it ? (as in, is it fully featured?)

The initial post it's 2 years old, the software and the post are updated regularly : the last version 0.83.1 has been updated the 13/03/2018 (+-1 month ago)

1, The Rift comes with 2 Constellation Sensors. If you want to set up a virtual room to move around the more sensors you can fit the better the accuracy of the VR.
2, I would leave the window open. You can use it at times (when, for example, you are typing texts to other players), and by tapping Ctrl + F you can see the FPS (for the VR).
3, If you are only playing sitting down you will only need the two sensors provided with the Rift. However, a good HOTAS makes the Game easier to play.
4, The software provided by Oculus meets MY needs, but others may make suggestions.
5, I don't believe that the Game supports SLi, either in normal or VR mode.
