Newcomer / Intro New. Saw game. -had- to buy it,

First I'd like to say that I am 25. I didn't grow up with a powerful pc and only have had one the past two and a half years after fulfilling a dream of mine and building my own.

-I didn't grow up with the 'classics' -what I did play in the space sim genre was the Escape Velocity games by Ambrosia. My best friend's family was a mac family, and let me
say -besides being a fan of sci fi from a young age- those games are what made me fall in love with the genre. -if you haven't played them, idk how they fare by modern standing
but I still recommend them.

ANYWAY

I have been cautiously anticipating Star Citizen and lo and behold I find this title. I watch a few vids and am immediately overcome with the desire to buy and support this developer.
I believe this game will be a giant in its own right feature wise, as it already is in universe size, and despite the fact that I probably will still purchase Star Citizen when it launches
(No 'pledge' pack... they have more than enough money to make that game... I'd rather support this one.)

I realized before even playing the title that my common old keyboard and mouse (nice as they are, mechanical and gaming propriety) would simply not cut it.
Some time spent researching H.O.T.A.S. and I purchased a x52 Pro. It should be here mid next week... I tried playing with a xbox controller and found the utter simplification
of the controls unsuited to my tastes and desires for the game... so looks like I have to wait a week to play.

So! I look forward to spending time in the milky way in the year 3300!

One question though,
my PC specs are
i5 3570k
7970 3g OC Boost
8g g.skill Sniper Ram.
-an UD3H gigabyte motherboard.

I can play the game at more or less max settings, as I only have a 1080p monitor (I use a 42 inch Sony Bravia display)

I would like to know what should be done about AA vs Supersampling.
at 4x its unplayable. at 3x there is a little slowdown (with regular AA disabled, of course.)
at 2x its perfectly playable.

BUT

Would I simply be better served with regular MSAA?

performance wise (I'm sure fps drops when the :D:D:D:D starts to hit the fan, so to speak.)

Aesthetically wise.

-Well.
That's my introduction.

-Look forward to maybe seeing some of you in game.

Hey! Welcome to ED.

As a fellow PC gamer, I like my settings to be as high as possible. Push it as high as you can, but try to keep your framerate at 60 or as close as possible, or you will experience serious slowdowns at certain points.

If you are anywhere near the Lugh system, feel free to drop by. I have been bounty hunting for a while and wouldn't mind a partner!

Also, I joined ED: Dangerous about a week ago.

Let me know which system you are in!

You should start playing already. I am using an xbox controller. What you should do is assigning double button commands. For example, i am using the yellow button for everything that has to do with targeting. Yellow + up means "target in front of me" while yellow + right fire means "target biggest thread". That way you can control basically everything with that controller.

I find it fascinating that although there are some space sims from indie developers (Vendetta Online, Evochron) and even recent failed attempts (Black Prophecy, Transverse), it takes David Braben and Chris Roberts to put space sims back on the map. It seems that veterans of the genre are the only ones who are able to do things "properly".

Anyway, @Tezyck, did you take a look at this (just to show what's possible in regard to controllers)?

Thanks to Alexander for the vid!

PS:
Oh yeah, for completeness sake there's also EVE Online, although that's more like a space sandbox RPG.
