New Series: Basics of Elite: Dangerous #1

Submitting to an interdiction

When you are interdicted, if you don't want to take your chances and risk losing the interdiction, submit AS SOON AS you are interdicted.

If you try to fight and submit once you are losing the interdiction (less than half of blue meter), you'll risk losing the interdiction instead of submitting, regardless of it saying 'Throttle zero: Submitting' in the top right, which will give you the interdiction spin and your FSD will charge slower.

Submitting AS SOON AS YOU ARE INTERDICTED will drop you smoothly, without the spin, you won't get hull damage and your FSD will charge the same speed it does after a hyperjump.

How to quickly select a target for high waking when interdicted. Differences between high and low waking. Stay tuned for new episodes every day.

Another excellent thread by another cmdr with the same intentions. More detailed information in video form:

How about the game stops sending deadly/elite npc pirates after a harmless ranked player carrying 10k worth of cargo instead, while not being on missions, or in PP.

OH MY GAWD, what a novel idea. Someone should hire me.

This is something I'm putting together for new players or anyone who may not know about this mechanic. This has nothing to do with how interdiction rates or enemy scaling is implemented. That is another discussion altogether.

So, either discuss the topic and try to be helpful to people instead of poisoning the well, or kindly and swiftly leave.

If you detail what you are asking a little more, I'll make sure to add it to one of the future issues. Either that or I'll request a better pilot than me to do it. Do you mean efficient interstellar travel, like travelling 100ly in the safest and most economical way or is it about supercruise maneuvers?

Basically escaping mass lock and gravity wells. Sounds obvious but the number of people who leave stations and immediately aim themselves at their target system...

Ok, I see. Supercruise flight will be #3 so, the day after tomorrow. Maybe I could throw in getting out of stations and jumping out in the same issue. Thanks for suggestions.

Thanks for this thread. It is much needed, despite what those trying to have the game nerfed keep screaming, there are a few very simple ways of playing in almost complete safety. Many forumers are clearly not aware of due to all the "my game is ruined" posts.

Well I gave you rep OP.

Whilst I did not learn anything from your OP, having read a number of the threads started by people challenged by the new NPC, it only takes a couple of pages to come across someone who was not aware of High Wake. So well done for starting simple and focused, I think that is an excellent idea.

Ignore the haters.
I'm interested to hear tricks for quickly selecting a high wake target.

Although I've known about high waking for ages, I've only used it a couple of times in combat and then too late.

My current MO is to submit immediately.
Orient myself to my destination.
Boost once.
Select the opposition ship and sub target the powerplant.
Boost again and low wake as soon as the FSD cools down.
Don't chaff until they open fire then chaff once immediately.
When I hit Low Wake I can see how Mass Locked I am.

When I can see how Mass Locked I am and by what I have time to make a decision.

The decision I want to make is whether and where to high wake.

So tell me OP and wise hive mind of the forum.
What's the fastest way to select a High Wake target?

Because at the moment I'm mass locked and their buddies have shown up.

This is a sneak peek into tomorrow's episode:

Best and quickest way to select a high wake target is to do it BEFORE the interdiction finishes.

As soon as you see the NPC message, or failing that when the actual interdiction starts and you throttle to zero to submit;

-Open your left had panel (default 1)
-Go to navigation tab if you aren't already there
-Scroll all the way to the top, it'll stop at the very top. Release and hit the button to scroll up once again. List will start from the bottom, giving you many options to jump to (if there are any red ones, you can't jump to those with a single jump so scroll past them)
-Hit space (or your OK key, whichever that is) twice

Looks long and tedious but it'll become second nature if you do it a few times.

Pro Tip: When on a multi-step travel, you can set the nav panel filter to only show stations and systems. This way there'll be a lot less stuff to scroll past.

This is the most basic way. There is one more thing which requires little more previous preparation but it'll be in tomorrows episode.

Stay tuned
