Hello guys, I just found a new space-game on Kickstarter that is quite similar to Rebel Galaxy but with real 3D flight mechanics (very easy and intuitive to play), the game is called Between the Stars and as the developers say "it is a non-linear space faring roguelike ARPG with heavy focus on events and player choice". It is a single player game, I might add to that.
I played the demo which you can find on Steam right now (2GB download only), or direct download through their Kickstarter page. It feels good to play, it has some known mechanics here and there, and some others with their unique touch. (like exploring and abandoned base through a mini-game with dialogue, which if done right it might give you some rewards but at least let you know what happened or what is going on in that base)
You can customise your load-out (each ship has its own weapon slot configuration and amount that you can equip, and it is not tied to a size like in Elite, you can fit any weapon where the slot is and there are others slots for scanners, radars, drones, etc), you can upgrade your weapons (you get materials when you destroy enemy ships, completing missions, or by exploring abandoned bases, and with those you can upgrade or research weapons if you have the blueprints which are obtained through mission rewards or when you buy that particular weapon once).
There is a loot-box system in the game (not tied to micro-transactions at all), when you destroy an enemy ship you can (and you have to) scan it for resources and you can get components/materials or those loot-boxes (each with its "common", "not common", "rare", value) and from those you get random stuff which could be any type of materials, weapons, blueprints, etc. Those boxes go straight to your inventory and you don't need any currency to open them. It is like getting canisters in Elite Dangerous once a ship blows up, instead of doing that you scan the rests of the ship and get the box straight away and then open it in your inventory to get the goods. Random but simple.
The ships are big and can take a punch, but if you do it wrong you can die. You have the very same power distribution system like in Elite Dangerous (it works exactly the same way, not even need to describe it), ships are slow to fly but feels good and makes sense.
You are always playing in third person perspective and the camera to me wasn't a problem but perhaps for some will be. (you can't look back fully unless you press "X" to look back and control the back camera, if that makes sense to you, I only needed it to check my back but not using it while engaging a target)
For not making this post unreadable I'll stop here, and go check out their Kickstarter page. They have 7 days left in it and they are trying to reach 30.000€ and as of now they are sitting at 24.000€. Hope to see it happening since I like these type of games. This will be a 19,99€ game if they can make it.
I'll leave here the Kickstarter web site so you can check it out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1393754749/between-the-stars?ref=35smv5
Also it looks good, it has photomode as well:
