New station PA voices.

5So, has anyone else giving the power play beta a try noticed the station PA voice changes? I was sitting in a station in empire space when I noticed the lady no longer sounds asian (what it sounded like to me anyways) anymore. Anyone else noticed any more changes up in Fed or alliance territory?

Alliance do sound more European than before that is speaking English with a slight European accent

What is a european accent? I am english and live in france and the EU is a groupe of english , french , german , spanish , eastern european nations etc... so that dosent make sens... but I see what you mean ;p

to my understanding they did not replace anything but added extra voices to each one

Hmm...not speaking for myself...but some people see it as a pejorative and could take offense by some word choice.... you might probably want to edit it to "Asian" instead??... ;-)

'round here we call that accent continental.

Usually some American trust fund baby that has spent significant time growing up in various European countries.

Anyway...yes, there seems to be more variety at stations...but don't fret, the classics are still there!

In defense of DePriest, I would never have guessed that the word oriental would be construed as pejorative.

It was only after a quick google search that I found out that you are indeed correct- it can be construed as offensive to some. However, I would wager that many people lacking a background in sociology or cultural anthropology would have guessed that. I consider myself reasonably well-read and it was a complete surprise to me.

I just wish they'd finally fix the ship computer voice...

"Landing Gear Retracteted" and

"Friendship Drive Jarging"

Its not that hard girl: "F_r_a_m_e - s_h_i_f_t - D_r_i_v_e - - - C_h_a_r_g_i_n_g"

This just gets tedious to listen to after a while.

The original voice they had in Beta had way better pronunciation than this gal.

Don't know how anybody figured this was an "improvement" Next thing, they'll hire someone with a thick cockney accent.

Same here. I thought the term had just simply fallen out of fashion. I'm glad I know though (googled too to be sure), political correctness for the sake of it aside, it's good to know why things are seen differently in a new light.

I swear, on the way out of one of the stations last night, I heard one of the announcements say something about speeding. I just busted out laughing, thinking much the same thing you just mentioned.
