New Suit Variants

Exo Suit: For the One-Man-Army War Hero

-One time use, takes up a cargo.
-On the expensive side.
-Jettison before disembark so you can access it outside, or airdrop to users on the ground.
-Gives user incredible speed and jumping ability, with slower acceleration. Melee deals extra damage and range but is slower to fire.
-Swapping weapons takes longer.
-Exo suit provides an extra layer of pretection with its own shields and durability but does not completely cover the user and can be bypassed with accurate aim.
-2x one-time dumbfire missile attachment.
-Is an energy hog. Has the capacity of 2 power cells but when it runs out will sap suit power.
-Can pick up/toss/flip SRVs

Thruster Suit: Spacewalker Elite

-working best in microgravity, the thrusters allow for quick, controlled and sustained flight. Perfect for going on spacewalks to repair your ship or orbital equipment.
-30 minutes of oxygen after power failure.
-Magnetic hands, and joints for climbing on ship exteriors.
-equipped with arc cutter/welder.
-also handy for quick trips across the ground of low-g planets.
-has a boost feature.

High Pressure Suit: for the Land Swimmers

-The only suit capable of operating safely in atmospheres over 2.00.
-Extreme Temperature Regulation. Very high energy capacity.
-Capable of diving in liquid.

No Suit: Happy Birthday!

-Only usable in temperate, oxynated environments with gravity or simulated gravity.
-Regular a** clothing. Different articles available at different systems' shops.

Interesting ideas but there are some flaws I'm afraid.
  • What the exo can do, the SRV does better.
  • For ship repair, a repair drone does better
  • The high pressure suit: again, the SRV is better and I've never seen any liquid to dive into.
The ship repair suit and high pressure one would be useful if FDev implement EVA and atmosphere worlds.

For the "no suit"... I'm sure I've seen some NPC's wa;l around in "civilian" clothing so I guess having a non-flight suit option is doable.

The repair is kind of interesting, but I would suggest that it could only be done on surface. There you can already be able to disembark. But then they would have to implement visible damage to ships. And as far as I know that is only supported on the Anaconda. Or you just land and fire aimlessly at the ship with the repair tool. Then the repair limpet is as good along with AFMS. But this could be an interesting option for ships that don't have those fitted. You crash on the surface and need to repair the ship, land and fire up the welder. This could introduce the engineer suit, linking with and using the materials on the ship for repair jobs. Then speed up the job if in a team assisting.

Importantly, an AFMU cannot repair itself (you need a second one, taking up vital module space), nor can it repair a Power Plant (this would need a new mechanic, like a chemical/synthesized battery, or an AFMU Repair Module you target subsystems with).

This is why I say manual repair with some of the Odyssey components or synthesized parts. It gives further reason to do ship interiors, but I also like the idea of an engineering suit in general. Give it extra space for components, and a diagnostic pulse to show you which area needs closer inspection. Go look at what needs fixing, maybe with a more in-depth diagnostic scanner (suit mod option?), which will hilight what is broke/what you can replace it with.

The repair device could be a 'weapon', so future EVA suits can also equip them to go into derelicts... Admittedly, you might also want to do the same with the Maverick Suit laser, as it feels like you will want it for ship salvage. Or maybe not a weapon, maybe an upgrade slot? I dunno, we should circle back to this at some point.

I would love a new suit with the stats of the Artemis, the capability to dash forward/backward/laterally, and replace the genetic sampler by a melee weapon.
Cyberpunk 2077 did that brilliantly.
