New Thargoid Activity

All of this peacetime is getting boring. I think it's time for the Thargoids to launch their new and greatest offensive. Or at the very least maybe a rogue faction of Thargoids could be launching an attack, leading to a new AX community goal? At the moment it feels like there is not a lot of excitement/content for players who are interested in trying out AX combat.

I was not playing during the war so I'm afraid I never had the chance to experience it. It sounds like there was a wide-variety of interesting gameplay that isn't available anymore. And the ongoing narrative idea feels like it would be a great motivator to get the community engaged, even if it was simply a CG instead of a larger-scale conflict. As it is now, it feels like the galaxy is stagnant, and there just isn't much incentive to go out and fight Thargoids. I don't want to harass a fleeing force of weaklings. I want to wage war against a powerful foe, you know?

Nah, it's not a mechanical/difficulty thing. I've heard that they are pretty tough to fight. It's more of a narrative thing I guess. It's a lot more fun to participate in a community-driven battle than just hunting for the sake of materials.

To a degree, I do! I think it would be more fun to learn how to do AX alongside an active story and conflict rather than already be a thargoid-slaying badass when the next war begins.

I guess that's debatable. Or maybe it really depends on your perspective. Most accounts of the war I have gotten from players who were experiencing it really seemed to lean into the narrative of it all alongside a sense of community and purpose on driving the invaders out. At the very least, FDev seemed to really put a lot of time and effort into making it a storyline that players could participate in rather than a static event. I mean, mysterious signals and beacons eventually led to the invasion of our home system. That's something that gives you a sense of meaning and fun beyond numbers going up on your screen.

Or how about another thargoid titan arriving, but this time the thargoids want to talk, to sign a treaty claiming an area of space thats theirs alone and any human entering it will be killed, in return they promise to stop all incursions into human space with a deal freezing the thargoid-human war into an uneasy stalemate.
Also they tell us to be wary of where we colonise as there are other threats out there that the thargoids dare not go near........

Maybe I've been too focused on another Thargoid war because your idea sounds even more fascinating and engaging. Not to mention it would probably offer a better variety of things to do for those who have already participated in the last war.

FDev, you gotta take notes from my man Bill here.

I thought you said the war was two years? That sounds like a long time for narrative-driven content. And from what I can tell the vast majority of players seemed to really enjoy that direction. I feel as though there are some long-time vets that have lost interest in the game, but also seem opposed towards new players experiencing something similar to what they have. Or maybe it's just a kind of burnout.

Fighting the bosses was freakin difficult, killing scouts was easy and fun, but boy oh boy - attacking the Titans! The whole setup of that attack was marvelous, punching through the maelstrom and asteroids and seeing the enormous Titan and making it protrude the pineapple... fantastic gameplay, exciting and impressive.

FDevs should put one live Titan somewhere, always. Not building the war again if they don't want, just place one damn Titan somewhere far so people can go there and enjoy.

It is definitely reliant on FDev choosing to lean into that direction. Which is why I am here giving my opinion to FDev. More of that please! And I personally don't see waiting for a community focus on AX as missing out. To me missing out would be engaging in content that doesn't motivate me, just because it is there.

The game has been running for ten years and while the war lasted for two most of the narrative was of the ongoing activities type not really that driven.

And from what I can tell the vast majority of players seemed to really enjoy that direction.
A large number of players took part with various degrees of enjoyment in some or all of the activities and some of those players and groups of players were very vocal in their enthusiasm but I am dubious of it being the vast majority.

Some have lost interest but since the war there have been long absent players returning.

The thing is for those with little to no interest in the war it was two years of nothing for them, then the war came to its climactic end and almost immediately the requests to do it again started to come in.

I wasn’t that involved in the war, I quite enjoyed the little I did but even though I did some specialist builds for it I don’t miss it.
I can see why people want it back but I think that the gap between wars should be at least as long as the war if only so that ED doesn’t just become about the Thargoid war.

Not bringing the war back, no no.

But parts of it were such a good gameplay that it's a crying shame we don't have it any more. I would like very much that somewhere, 500+LY from Maia, there is a small sector with an ever present Titan. So people who have all the adequate ships stored now can go there, four weeks for killing that Titan, it goes boom, a week of rest, then the another one pops up there.

Not pushing further into the ever-growing bubble, just being there for kicks. Not interfering with PP, Colonization, no.

I agree with Doctor Dread. It's probably too early to start talking about something on the same scale as the war. That was the culmination of many years of build up. But something along the lines of an occasional community goal or a recurring titan sounds like a great way to provide players who want to take part in more focused AX content what they are looking for without having to pull focus away from other areas too much.

Once every few months, there's an incursion around newly established colonies near the Pleiades with planetary port combat where the community helps out would be nice and ties in from a lore perspective since this is Thargoid territory that we are encroaching.

This would keep the absolutely amazing gameplay that the Pilots Federation introduced during the war.

I am in Asterope & California but I do miss the community nature of retaking Orbitals & Planets.

I would like to see more activity from the their homeworld sector of space maybe more expansions and gaining power there, discreetly where nobody is watching.
