New to beta

I first played Elite on my C64 when I was learning my multiplication tables. Now I am thrilled to see the game that I always wanted to see on the screen. So great job to the developers and keep up the good job.

Now with that said I am have a problem almost every time I fight. I keep getting my butt handed by every Cobra I meet. I can't outrun them, I can't out fight them and they just pull away and joust with me until I die. I have tried putting power to engines to run, systems to try to take the damage, and weapons to out shoot them. I use the drift up/down and left/right but he never misses. What am I doing wrong?

Hey Apostle, I'm pretty new to beta as well. I've always been able to outrun any trouble, just shift all power to engines and keep hitting boost until I can supercruise away.

A better way to do this is put all power to engines, turn away from the contact(s), boost once and disable flight assist, as this way you will stay at your boosted speed. Just don't touch any other controls if you are unexperienced flying without flight assist.

I'll try that thanks, I thought I was flying without FA until I tried to turn it on and got the message it was off on the screen, heh I got a surprise.

Here's a tip I saw on the forums some time back.

If you want to run away, turn OFF Flight Assist, dump all power to engines, and boost. Once is enough. Boosting multiple times does not increase your speed.

Then just use thrusters to try to throw his aim off and try SuperCruise until you get the countdown. Once you're in Frameshift, you've lost him.

I always do this whenever I get interdicted, even by Cobra MK 3s. I outrun them fine, and even their missiles never got me
