New to DK2 quick question

Befor my question just want to say WOW what an experience and I only sat at a desk lol

Right my question is I seem to be missing something when I click on the oculus icon it only comes up with one option where I set my profile up and played the demo desk, I don't seem to see an option to change display setting within the rift , and when I right click on my desktop and go to resolutions it doesn't recognise the second monitor as the rift just says something about vega device, PLZ what have I done wrong bound to be something lol

many thanks in in advance

Rob

Thanks for quick reply it's a Radeon R7 240 2 gb duel graphics card desktop is a hp pavilion 500-326na

First of all, the rift isnt seen as a monitor by your pc as of the latest driver (runtime 0.7). So no display settings to change.
Everything is done in direct mode now, wich is alot better on latency and performance. But the game you want to
play need to support the 0.7 sdk. Many dont yet, and Elite dangerous wont either. So you need to download an older
version of the runtime. Go here: https://static.oculus.com/sdk-downlo...in_0.5.0.1.zip to get it.

With that installed (and 0.7 uninstalled) windows will see the Rift as a second monitor again, and also Elite and and alot of other older demos will work.

Now, if your laptop can handle VR is another question. ED is one of the most demanding games in VR on you hardware.
It might most likely be far too slow for ED. But youll see soon when you try.

Thanks callezetter that actually makes sense which is a new one on me lol. Elite runs nice on my desktop and oculus runs OK a little judder but no to bad but like you said both together might be a little to far, was going to upgrade graphics card today if there are any issues as I'm hoping the rest will handle it oh and a bit more ram as only got 6gb.
Hopefully the and a8 6500 processor will cope but I know absolutely nothing about computers so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks again for the great advice

That cpu is alittle on the low side for consumer VR in 2016 (cv1/vive) but will probably work fine for your DK2. But you really need to upgrade the gpu if you want to be in the game next year.
I would look out for a used gpu like a 290 or 290x, they can be had for really cheap with alittle luck.

Once again many thanks callezetter I will keep my eyes pealed for one as I want a good experience on vr time to try the old sdk fingers crossed

I've seen this before and it is usually caused by either the head tracker not being plugged in to the PC or it does not have enough power. You should use a USB 3 port if you can as they provide enough power. Failing that you will need to use the PSU that came with your DK2 as well.

Do you get a blue light on the head tracker? If not then it is not powering up.

Yes got it working thanks hadn't set it up properly in elite setting but must say what a piece of kit cannot see myself enjoying any game after the rift blows you mind and vr only going to get better with time, just need a new gpu now

Indeed. I don't like playing ED without my Rift/HMD. For me, the immersion and being able to shut out the real world around me is a big stress reliever.

Now if only ED and Nvidia can get this proper SLI VR thing going it would worth while getting another 980Ti so I could max out all the settings and still be able to push out 90+fps without too much stress.

Yes totally agree dementia once sorted should run really smooth , picked myself up gtx 970 and it's so much smoother now runs at ultra settings at 75 fps no problem and the card is turned right down so plenty of growing room lol

Looking forward to 1.4 update when I get home as I tried last night to change hud colour to green to read txt better then messed it up didn't save original so was an early night for me last night. Just glad they get replaced with update
