New to Elite, few questions

Hi everyone

I am new to Elite Dangerous. Today I picked up the $75 beta, and the $50 lifetime expansion pack.

So far i only have combat missions. I am guessing all the full features such as hyperdrive (i see videos online) are coming out tomorrow right?

Second question - I am currently using an Xbox 360 controller. Is there a good mapping I can use, or is default good enough?

1. Yes. The login client will prompt you to update when it's online.

2. Whatever works best for you really. Map stuff you need in combat as a priority.

I hear that people tend to struggle with the 360 controller due to the lack of buttons.

Give the mouse/keyboard a go, you'll be surprised how intuitive it becomes after a little practice.

You can find a bunch of posts regarding key-mapping on these very forums.

Thank you. I checked it out and am trying different things. So far I am really enjoying it, and I think I might have to look into getting the popular Saitek X52. That looks like a great option to enjoy this game.

i can really recommend the x52 it just works brilliant right out of the box.

Can second that, the X52 is just made for E: D, I do not have to take my hands off the throttle and stick ever, other than for the galaxy map.

Yeah so that's my question - with the X52, is there a method of controlling the UI? Like what if I want to target something, do I need to use mouse/keyboard or does it have buttons for that ?

Add TrackIR and you can just look at a side panel to take control of if using the stick... or if not using headtracking, by default you can press 1, 2 or 3 to change to side panel views. Or bind them to your stick.

I have the Oculus DK2 coming in today, so that should hopefully resolve that issue. I am just curious, are there buttons on the X52 Pro that will let me select/move around the menus? I don't have much experience with the X52, but I hear everyone raving about it.

As far as a controller is concerned the most popular is the X52pro. Unfortunately its pretty expensive and currently out of stock pretty much everywhere. If an X52pro is currently beyond your budget then I would suggest investing in voice attack as others have already suggested. Its only $8 which is less than £5. It'll be the best money that you could spend on the game imo.

I ordered the X52 Pro from Amazon and should be getting it tomorrow. Hopefully the X52 Pro, along with the Rift should allow a great immersion into Elite.

I am still interested in the voice commands,I will have to see how the game is with the X52 though.

You must have plenty of money to spend. Amazon are pretty expensive.
